Is this the one you're feeding: Natural Dog Food, Cat Food and Puppy Food for Pets With Food Sensitivity – California Natural Carrageenan is the 5th ingredient, so there is sufficient amount to cause concern. Esp since they're so small & eating it 2 x's a day. Can you possibly get a refund for the remainder of the unused cans? Ingredients Lamb Lamb Broth Brown Rice Ground Flaxseed Carrageenan Potassium Chloride Sodium Tripolyphosphate Guar Gum Minerals (Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt, Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Selenium Yeast, Potassium Iodide) Sunflower Oil L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C) Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Biotin, Riboflavin Supplement) Tricalcium Phosphate DL-Methionine Choline Chloride Salt Taurine Beta Carotene

| I remember my x-bf's dog (Maltese/ Pekingese mix) having arthritis on his leg joints @ only 5 years old. He stopped going up the stairs & when he tried he screamed out in pain. He only ate those roll type foods, he wouldn't go near anything else. Now I'm wondering if it had carrageenan in it. I understand that it can also be a genetic disorder, Peke's tend to have back & leg problems, but carrageenan's ability to cause inflammation can make the existing problem worse. Loll @ the bolded part! Hoping they'll do something about it...but if it's in human food, when will they ever get to stop using it in pet food.

| Thanks for the info. I just wonder if this could have been Kayla's problem. I am going to check out Royal Cannine. |

| I was going rounds with Weruva, sales rep trying to convince me that Thailand was such a great place to have it's factory...I think not. Just like Jenny said, how do we know where the ingredients are coming from? I have learned to be a much more educated consumer from all of this, that is for sure.

| What's wrong with Thailand? It was my understanding that their safety and manufacturing protocols are much much stricter than the US.

| It may very well be, but I doubt very much they are using ingredients from the US and shipping it to Thailand to be processed. I would worry a lot over vitamins and food sources not from our country.

Yes, the canned varieties are for supplemental feeding only because they are only a protein source and not a complete diet so they should be mixed with something else like some dry food or, as their rep said she does, mix it with their veggie mix. I put a tablespoon over their dry food for each meal...I don't have to...it just gives them a little something extra in the bowl but it will raise the protein level of that meal so you have to give less dry. You can also give it to them as a treat or snack but, no, it is not a complete diet like their dry foods are. | |

Sorry Patti, I just saw your post! Did you manage to find an appropriate canned food? What is the acceptable percentage of protein that Cali can eat? I will look for & make a list of canned foods w/out carrageenan tonight...give me a day or 2 to post it.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks Jenny, I try and keep Cali on food that is no more than 21% protein. I found one canned food that didn't list Carrageenan as an ingredient. It is Organix by Castor & Pollux. I have never heard of it before so I don't know if it is any good. I bought one can but haven't used it yet. I'm going to the Pet specialty store I get their California Natural from in a couple if days and talk to them too.
