| Depressed Callie Callie is depressed and I'm not sure which thing is the cause and what to do about it. Tuesday she got two shots her 3 year DAP and the a Lyme shot (I know how most people feel about shots and I did what I thought was best for my Callie also because she is bigger the vet felt two at one time would be ok) well she seemed fine we went to the new house we are still fixing up and she ran and ran around it and through the newly fenced yard then we came home and she ate dinner fine and was a little sore and went to sleep. Well ever sense she has been sleeping all the time and not wanting to eat much or play no matter how much I try.Although she is going out to lay on the deck in the sun a few times. Now my grandpa has been gone early in the morning until 6 at night with painters and other repair men at the house and Callie is used to him normally being around and she loves sitting with him in the morning when he drinks his coffee and she naps and its just the two of them. Also we have slowly started packing some and some of it is extra stuff of hers from upstairs like older toys I kept up there but we did that a week ago. I was going to get a thyroid test at her yearly check up Tuesday but she had been acting so lively, happy and playful that I thought everything was fine. She goes back in two weeks for another shot should I have them test her thyroid then? Worried and not sure what to do.

| The last time Rosie got shots she had a similar reaction. She was so lethargic acting. She was not herself at all. I was told it was a reaction to the shot. Since this happened to her I have elected to not give it right now. I think if she is not better in a day or so I would talk to the vet.

| I've heard of larger dogs having bad responses to multiple vaccines (big breed dogs), so it's not so much the size of the dog that determines if their immune systems can handle the vaccs or not. I know we share different views about vaccines so I won't say anything else, just that I hope Callie is feeling better soon. I'm sorry too. I thought I had replied to this thread the other night. I must have jumped up to do something and when I came back my PC had restarted itself! I do remember reading it though. Sorry.

| Callie is going through many changes, just like you right now! If you suspect the shots you really do need to talk to the vet. My Miss Mini is very sensitive to change and my emotions, right now I am going through massive drama...I'm trying to keep things level for her, but she is feeling it...the last few days "daddy" has been away and she has made herself sick over it, so off to the vet on a holiday we must go.... I don't know how shes going to handle the move, and not having both of us...I am definitely worried about this...

My furkids Donating Member | My little Lillie acted like this after her lyme shot...although she wouldn't play OR eat! She had a bad reaction to the shot (only got the lyme)...it was the first and LAST time she got it! thought we were going to lose her.Like someone here said...lots of changes going on for your little girl. Maybe she is just missing a spot in her old house? Maybe a call to your vet..I hope she is back to her old self soon

| Depressed I am so sorry your baby is depressed and not herself. Yes it could be due to the shots, but also the move. My dog is also very sensitive to change and emotions and after we moved there was lots of chaos, drama, noise, workmen etc etc. we also had less time to devote to him. He too became depressed and would not play with toys or us. After a year he still sleeps a lot and does not play. His great joys are food and going out in the car. At home he seems bored and sad. We have had him checked out by the vet, but he is very healthy and eats well. If it were due to the shots he should recover soon, but if the sad behavior continues and the vet checks him out as ok, then perhaps one has to look at the move as the cause. We find that home obedience training does cheer him up, and we try to spend time each day doing this. He loves the treats! Good luck and hope your baby feels better soon. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The vet thought 2 at a time would be okay, but the DAP is three shots in one isn't it? So that's 4 different inoculations and I do think that could throw her off. I hope you tell the vet about her reaction, he learns about this sort of thing through people informing him. Hope Callie is her old self soon.

| She seems to be doing better now. I did not realize that DAP was like three shots it one I knew it was for three different things but though one thing did it all I guess. I think it might have been the shots more then anything and I will tell the vet about it when we go back. Me, my vet, and the vet tech all felt lyme was a very important shot for Callie to have because she seems like a tick magnet, our area seems bad with ticks off and on, and its is almost always the little ticks that bite her. I am going to put my own note in Callie's record binder that if she gets DAP again in three years to do it by itself. I am making sure that even if we have to stay up really late that she is getting her special play time we do every night so I am trying my best to keep things as normal for her as I can. She is eating again and chewing bones and playing more. I worry about making sure all her shots are up to date with the moving because I do not want her to catch anything I can keep her from getting. There are times she seems so very sensitive and I forget she can pick up on what I am feeling even if I am not sure I am feeling it lol. I did have a panic attack around the same time she was acting off and I had forgot about it so I am sure she sensed that too.

| Callie Thanks for the update. So happy Callie is feeling more like her old self again, and you must be so relieved. I wonder about these multiple shots too especially with our small dogs. Sounds like you need them though with all the bugs getting at Callie. (I feel itchy already, LOL!) Lyme is a nasty disease. I feel I am always giving some medication, what with Frontline/Heartworm etc etc, and they seem to take it all in their stride normally. The vaccines are another add- on to add to the load their little bodies have to accept. It is hard when moving to make special time for our little ones, and I am sure they miss the attention. It is great that you are concentrating on play time with her and behaving as normally as possible. Good Luck with the new home and may Callie get better every day. |

| Well before I say what it is. I want everyone to know that I know this is a very controversial shot and after talking with my vet several times and doing my own research I feel this shot is necessary especially sense my mom had a goat die of this and with out this shot I would not be able to have Callie go out to my moms with comfort. We are at the vet after the shots between a half an hour and one hour and that's normally when a reaction to this shot happens. It is Lepto. We are also moving to a more country like setting where there was no fence and animals were free to roam where the fence is now.
