Thor's Human Donating Member | Welcome! How do you know she is obese? Did your vet tell you? If so, what did they recommend to get her weight down? Also, how old is your dog?

| Have you had any bloodwork done to rule out thyroid or other problems that can cause weight gain? |

| If your vet has given your pup a full evaluation and they determined your baby is a bit of a porkie yorkie (mine is ) then there are ways to help them safely lose weight. There is a chart sometimes on the back of the bag (can?) of food. What I feed my little boy even has a seperate chart for active puppies and not so active puppies. For my yorkie, it says to feed a little less than a quarter cup of food at each feeding (twice a day). That's the portion for a lazy pup. Check the label it might be helpful and give you an idea of how to feed your pup.

| I also have a porker, Sheldon is 6.4 lbs and 6 months old. Vet told me not to feed him more than 1/2 cup a day. He is so chunky I can't feel his ribs unless I really dig in deep. He is an eating machinne, he is always hungry. After his dinner because he still hungry I give him some cooked green beans or peas, he will eat them just plain. No table food either. What did the be say? |

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | I feed my overweight dogs vet type Science Diet R/D (Reducing Diet). Even the kids that are under 10 pounds only get 1/4 cup two times a day. It is not a meat filled diet but like it says, a REDUCING diet. They get by because the ingredients are filling. I would rather feed them Origen and Grandma Lucy's and Stella and Chewy's like the normal weight guys get but having a long haired Chihuahua that SHOULD BE 5 pounds and is over 7 isn't healthy. I get them those little round treats..."something bear"...forgot name, from PetCo...that have just 3 calories per piece. Louise |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Personally, I'm happier when my yorkies are porky. Not fat but I see these teeny tiny babies and they are soooooo fraile and some sickly. My preference would be 6-10 or even more. I like to see breeding for standard but I'd gladly take that porky oooopsie over the runt. Just my preference. Don't get me wrong teensy babies are gorgeous but I have teens so I'd be scared. Love your porker, but make sure the vet says its an ok weight for him. My sisters yorkie rescue is 13 pounds. He's tall skinny and perfect. Just a big boy!!! Healthiest dog out of the 4 yorkies in our family

My furkids Donating Member | Welcome to YT! are you sure she is over weight? Several members on here have yorkies that are well over standard. can you feel her ribs? is she fat all over or just her belly....maybe she needs to be wormed...All though yorkies come in different sizes they are not mini, teacup, micro mini or tinies...they are a toy breed...these other words are used as a selling ploy...(gotta watch our for these people!). You may just have a "big" girl...nothing wrong with that! more to love!! and less chance of her breaking a bone jumping off of something ....I bet she is adorable!!! but, if you think she is "fat" them maybe bloodwork is the way to go...

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Agreed. I get bloodwork once a year for both. Check thyroid, liver, lipase (pancreatis), heart worm, CBC all of it. If anything it's peace of mind.
