| Feeding multiples??? individually?? I have been free feeding my guys and I don't think I can do this anymore. They are getting too heavy. How do I feed them individually? They eat dry kibble and to me it doesnt look like they are eating too much but I can't regulate how much each is eating. They just go eat when they are hungry. Do I have to put each one in a seperate room and feed them. They might not be hungry when I do that. Should I try to mix in some canned food so they will eat. It's confusing for me to try to teach them to eat on command.

| Adding some canned food to encourage them to eat is a good idea. They will get the 'hang' of it.... If they miss a meal, they will most likely eat the next time as they will be hungry... not much different than fasting before a surgery/procedure. Mine eat in the kitchen, about 5 feet away from each other. Tink has prescription food, which they all love, lol, so sometimes I will feed her in another room, on the bed or a chair (mine don't jump up by themselves). I do spend about 15 minutes watching them to make sure they eat their own food and not everyone else's. I have more of a problem keeping the cats at bay while the dogs eat.

| It is a pain in the patootie, but I have to feed 5 separately....they each eat breakfast in the kitchen, each on one side of the island....the 5th one eats in the utility foom, separated by a baby gate. I used to free feed, but they were getting entirely too fat, for the same reason you are having now....so I cut them down to 2 meals a day....1/3 cup of diet Royal Canin for breakfast, and less than 1/4 cup + 6 canned green beans at night. No canned dog food...doesnt help with dental care and stools become soft....when stools are firm, that helps express those anal glans...I have enough drama around my house without anal gland drama!...) |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | same here, I have to feed 5 individually, what I do is I mix their foods and fill their bowls in the kitchen, then I put each bowl in their crates and put them in pack order in the crates to eat, and they stay in until all are done, then I put them out in pack order too.. first Harrison Ford, then Prada the yorkie, who eats wellness simple, then Chanel Coco, after that Relay and last but not least the baby, Delilah. I been doing this since the Vet put Miss Prada in Wellness because of her stomach issues.. I know it sounds hard, but I got it down to a science I can feed them in 20 minutes max, then off to the yard they go to do their puppy business and after that they crash in my bed to watch tv....LOL hugs, |

I guess I will do the veggie thing mixed with their kibble and feed them 2 times a day and keep them seoerated int he kitchen. Maybe I will mix the pumpkin in because my Trix eats poop If they miss a meal because they are not hungry at that time I guess they will learn to eat when they are fed. I have to do something because they are entirely too fat!!

| At my dads house, I feed all 3 dogs individually, but they are all in the same room at the same time. They all encourage each other to eat. I used to watch over, and make sure one didn't try to go over and eat another's, etc. But now they are fine. We do mix wet with the kibble. Jackson gets 1/3 cup twice a day (so 2/3 cup total each day, and a spoonful of wet in each meal) and he's 16lbs and very active.

| Mine eat different foods, so they are fed separately. Sometimes I'll just stand in the dining room while they eat to make sure there is no stealing. They do know that they are expected to eat only the food in front of them though until the other is done and leaves the dish. Usually though, I crate Ry while he eats and feed Ellie in the dining room. He likes to poop about 20 minutes after meals anyway, so it gives his food time to settle. Then we take him out so he doesn't go inside. Baby gates would works if you won't crate. Mixing things in is fine. I wouldn't recommend it though - unless you want them to come to expect it. Then you'll have dogs holding out for what they want. If they don't eat what you put down when you put it down, they will the next meal if they are hungry enough.

| 3 of mine eat together from the same bowl. Zoey eats separate (Rx. Diet) and so does Buddy (Different brand and supplements added). Have you tried upping the excercise for weight loss and cut out/down on the treats.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I put mine on a diet more two yrs ago, and you would have thought that the world was coming to an end...! They would bark and chase me around the house wanting more. The barking was extremely and still is ear piercing. I started out free feeding and they too were getting fat. So, I portioned their meals, fed them separate three times a day, while I supervised so that none of them was finishing up the left overs. After about 18mo. and once we got them on a set schedule I than went back to one large bowl for all of them but the same about of food combined. I still get harassed by them when my son forgets to feed them. They definitely know when it meal time. I am trying very hard to teach my son about feeding them on schedule so that I do not get harassed. The only fall back from portioning their meals and feeding them less, is that they now will beg to go outside to fill up on poop! Even my oldest, Quincy who has never eaten poop until I put them on a diet. Yea me, because he has GI issues all of them time now from eating poop. They did loose some weight but gained it all back. Ya cant say that I didn't try..... I have deemed them "My Four Porky Yorkies" ... Shocker: I did notice one thing that each of them have in common. Once each of them got fixed is when they started to gain the majority of their weight. Keep in mind they are not above the average yorkie weight to begin with. Brandi got fix as a pup so shes always been a big girl. Miah got fixed at age 5 and went from 10 to 15lbs in three yrs Quincy got fixed at age 9 and went from 9 to 16 lbs. in the past two yrs. Ruby is not fixed but weights 9lbs.

I will try to portion out their food once in the am and once in the pm. I took (chubby) Coco out for a nice little walk today.(which I never do) they just all play in the backyard. I was a nervous wreck looking out for other dogs that are gunna eat him. He could hardly breathe when we got home. I mean we only walked about 7 or 8 houses down and back. Now that it's warmer I will try to do that with him especially, every day or so. Wally and Trixie are fine with their weight. Trix is 15lbs and Wally is 5.5. I know Pebby is a bit overweight also so maybe I take each one every other day. Wally is afraid of his shadow so he wont walk and Trix hates the leash. No matter what I have tried she has slipped out of. She's a scardy cat also.
