| 9 Week Old Yorkie- Never Had Dog Before! Hey everyone, Im excited to say, I finally got my parents to get me a dog yesterday! I picked up a 9 week old male, and named him Maxfield! Anyways, we are feeding him earthborn holistic, puppy vantage, and he has been here for almost 24 hours. We gave him about a half a cup of food yesterday afternoon and have left it out for him. We crated him over night and this morning since we let him out he has been nibbling. He still hasn't finished the half cup of food yet! I have never had a dog before, I am just wondering how much I should be feeding him, and once I put his food and water out, should I leave it out all day for him? Or should I take the bowls away after he takes his few bites? He is barley 3 pounds and is very small! Thanks in advance for everyone that helps out with my question! I'm sure I will be posted more stupid (simple) questions like this in the near future, so again, thanks for your help in advance! |

| HE is small, I free fed when I she was a puppy. It was easier and she was distracted with playing and would take a nibble here and there, he is very very young to be away from his mother and litter mates as the proper age is 12 weeks. I would allow him to free feed and even add a little canned ( soft) food to his diet either at breakfast or dinner.

| Yorkies eat small amounts at the time so it is better to have food & water for him 24/7 Congrats on your new baby and welcome to YT

| I agree with the others, free feed at least while he's a baby & water Must be clean & available at All times. Oh and by the way, there is no such thing as a stupid/dumb question so ask away. Also, please do not take your new baby on outings until he is fully vaccinated. It's best to keep him in your home & backyard where strange dogs have not been. |

YT Addict | He is young to be away from his mom, BUT 3lbs at 9 weeks is big for a yorkie compared to the ones that leave home weighing 1lb-2lbs at 12 weeks. So he sounds like he'll be nice and tough! Just like a boy should be haha... jk my tikka was 7lbs when I got her at 8mnths. I agree I've owned puppies before, and just let him eat as he needs, keep an eye on his weight though, and maybe soak his food a little bit so its softer. At nine weeks old he is very young and probably still a li'l sensitive in the teeth.

| Ideally your new puppy should have stayed with mom and his litter mates until 12 weeks. But since he already is here then provide him with food and water at all times. 3Lbs is a very good weight on a 9 week old yorkie. That was actually the same amount as my Suzi when I first brought her home. The puppy has nice strong teeth, so as long as the kibble is not big he should do fine.

| Congratulations on Mr. Max! 9 weeks is very young to have a puppy brought home, however, I agree with all of the other posts. Leave the food available for him 24/7. Be sure to be checking his gums and make sure that they are moist and pink as well. Nutrical is also very very handy to have on hand just in case he gets hypoglycemic! Keep us posted!
