Ideally your new puppy should have stayed with mom and his litter mates until 12 weeks. But since he already is here then provide him with food and water at all times. 3Lbs is a very good weight on a 9 week old yorkie. That was actually the same amount as my Suzi when I first brought her home. The puppy has nice strong teeth, so as long as the kibble is not big he should do fine.
