I have not used a rubber band as it is painful..I know because a friend used the method for years. Her pups cried for hours after banding. You need a breeder to show you how to clamp and twist..no blood, no stitches to become infected, almost no reaction from the pups..infact I have done it while they were on the nipple nursing.

that sounds like a great idea... can you describe the procedure step by step in here as I don't know of any breeder who wants to share their craft. If you tell me step by step I think i'm smart enough to figure it out. When you say clamp.. do you mean using the kind of clamp that home depot sells to hold things together?? And when you say clamp and twist... do you mean clamping between the bone and twist if off??? Also separating the bone is one thing but what about the skin?? do you leave it dangling there??? Or perhaps i'm missing the whole point here????

No tools are needed from Home Depot..you are docking Yorkie tails, not elephants. LOL LOL A clamp is the small medical clamp..you can buy them many places..supply catologs etc. Simply put the clamp at the length you want..I like a bit longer show docking..so it is a bit outside the gold. Gentle clamp between cartiledge..easy to feel..then allow the clamp to stay about 3 mins..simple grasp the base of the tail and the remainder on the other side of the clamp and twist until it falls off. Leave the clamp for anther 3 to 5 mins...it will be crimped like a pie crust and there is no bleeding or need to stitch..I do the same with dew claws. Clean the clamp prior with alcohol, then run water over them...no need to stress the puppy with alcohol or iodine burning. I have never had an infection...used to get them in tails that were surtured..my email is Primyork@aol if I can be of any help.

LOL yorkierose.. you're funny..heheheheh elephant...heheheheh anyways.. so doing this technique it will just fall off?? what about the skin over the tail...?? once the cartilage is separated, doesn't the skin of the tail still connect the two part??? gold part??/ I never see a tail before it is docked before so I don't know if they have gold part?? hehehehe

When you twist the tail around about 5 or 6 times or whatever is needed, the tail comes off clean..you do not leave it hanging..twisting removes it. When you turn the pup over you see the underside of the color..black then gold, then black..I go beyond the gold into the black..the black part in the direction of the end of the tail, not the base. For the most part I remove 1/3..most I know do...but many pet breeders dock half off..far too short for showing IMO.
