When you twist the tail around about 5 or 6 times or whatever is needed, the tail comes off clean..you do not leave it hanging..twisting removes it. When you turn the pup over you see the underside of the color..black then gold, then black..I go beyond the gold into the black..the black part in the direction of the end of the tail, not the base. For the most part I remove 1/3..most I know do...but many pet breeders dock half off..far too short for showing IMO.
