clean ears out as well as you can removing all BLACK STUFF with a cotton ball and peroxide or ear cleaner. dry the ears and then use DRYing powder or baby powder or Athletes foot powder(anti-fungal) and then proceed to pluck all the hair you can grip out of your dogs ear. Then I use round tweezers and I get those little ears as bald as i can Them I clean them again and let them dry. then I use mite control one day and metronitazole creme (7 day yeast infection meds for women) in rotation. Always use the 7 day creme and Not the 3 or 1 day because they are too strong. 7 day is diluted enough to clean up the yeast growing in the wet dirty ears. I also use foot fungus creme once in a while to keep bacterial down... it really works but the real trick is keeping them hair free, dry and mites in check thaTS MY RECIPE... ALSO I GET ALL MY PET MEDS FROM REVIVAL ANIMAL.COM | |

     1. Bacterial infection-vet and prescription needed-wash bedding etc 2. Fungal infection-vet and prescription needed-wash bedding etc 3. Ear Mites-vet and prescription needed-along with house hold clean up 4. Yeast infection-well the second and beyond you can do-it-yourself but please note dietary (changes) treatments and getting proper dosage require one vet visit 5. Ear Plucking needed-ye this really isn't a do-it-yourself job for someone not really familiar with ear cleaning already let alone it's not great for some dogs most groomers include it in their services the average grooming service here is $30-$50 including shampoo, condition, clipping, ear cleaning-plucking if needed, anal glands cleared, nailed clipped, all the basics. Well some charge only $7 for ear plucking I'd pay a professional and watch a couple times first... MY POINT here is most of the possible causes require a vet to diagnoses as well as a prescription to treat, so you need to see a vet, and then if it comes back you know what it is and maybe it is someonthign you can treat yourself, but what if you think it's a yeast infection treat for that over the counter and you find out it was a fungal infections and it spreads to the inner ear...that can cause loss of hearing, further infection bacterial build up fever...you get where I'm going here? Oh and some food can cause infections of various types because of their high content of sugars and other irritants. Watch the food you feed them dogs are not like us they are so cause and effect of what they eat it's not even funny, I found out the hard way one of my dogs is allergic to corn another shouldn't have red meat, we're on a grain-less natural non-red meat diet here now and a raw diet, huge difference. Best of luck let us all know..

My yorkie is almost 9 weeks old she's had her first set of shots and also been de wormed. But now here ears are smelling really bad, she's not scratching them or anything so I'm not really sure what to do. Her next set of shots is on the 14th but should I wait that long???

I agree with posters who suggest a vet visit. My dog was off his food and also scratching ears. No smelly ears though. I took him to the vet who diagnosed a yeast infection. The vet flushed out the ears and gave anti fungal drops. As soon as he got home he wolfed down his food and was much happier. He must have been in pain and feeling bad, and I never knew!! He had a week of anti fungal drops to be sure ears were clear, and now Zymox drops every week to keep him clear. So please take him to then vet and let them do the deep cleaning. I doubt your dog would tolerate you doing this, even if you were familiar with the procedure. On the matter of the dog who fears the drops, mine does too. So I have someone hold him and hide the dropper bottle from him until I put the meds on. Then there is a technique for massaging the liquid into the ears.

I just bet that this puppy child has a yeast infection. Remember, until you can get to the vet, Vinegar is wonderful for getting rid of yeast.
