My Yorkies Ears STINK Really BAD!!! Hello every One Im new here. Well i have A 7 Year Old Parti Yorkie. And His Ears Are REALLY REALLY Smelly And Kinda Dark Looking On the Inside. How Do I Clean His ears Or What Should I Do? |
If his ears are smelling that badly he most likely needs to be seen by a vet. He will most likely need antibiotics. Ear infections are very painfull so I would not wait too long to have him seen. |

Its important to keep water out of the ears at all times especially when bathing them. My little male gets smelly ears and i got somehting from my vet called Clean ear that breaks down the wax and i clean it lightly with an ear bud being very careful not to hurt their ears or put it in too deep. But it might be more serious and he could have an infection so get him seen by your vet first |
Yeast infection-but take him the vet to be sure, then try feeding Yogurt regularly with live cultures...my mini schnauzer had a yeast infection in here ears...I learned all about ear plucking after that... |
Keeping hair out of the ears is also very important - you are 100% correct! |
Wow, Thanks For The Info. Yall Are Nice here @ YorkieTalk.com :) |
Sounds like a yeast infection to me. I would definitely take him to the vet asap. He will need an anti fungal, but if they have been this way for awhile you definitley want a professional to check for any issues that could have arisen. |
I've noticed, that while most people think their pet has ear mites, it's usually a fungus, and the vet will prescribe drops for their ears, for about 7 days...Like little fu fu said, it needs to be checked for any secondary infections, and, in that case, you'll probably get an antio-biotic, as well...You'll need to take the pup to the vet, soon, 'though, because they are very uncomfortable w/this... |

Or ear mites. The drops from the vet will have him feeling better in 24 hours and within a couple days totally cured. My last dog got it from eating beneful. Once we switched he never got it again. |

I agree with other posters saying your dog needs to be seen by a vet asap. Could be infection, ear mites, fungus, who knows? Definitely needs to be looked at by a vet. |

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to give the drops, Bennett runs away, he knows when i grab the bottle that he isnt going to like it so he hides under the bed, its so hard giving him drops by myself... |

OP -- you hve gotten excellent advice, need the vet on this. Stinkly ears are a sure sign of infection of some sort (fungal or bacterial). It could also be ear mites that have gotten so bad that an infection is concurrent, but the smell says infection. Keep those ear hairs plucked and ears nice and dry and you will see less of this. To pluck ear hair, I use a forceps to grab a clump of hair, and then just wind it around the forceps several times, and pull. Comes out easily and without any pain to the pup. Only pull those downy hairs that grow inside the ear this way -- nothing on the outer ear or you will get a yelp! |
