| Do you have pet insurance? I'm thinking about getting pet insurance. Do any of you have this? Which insurance? How are the rates? Has it been helpful to you and is it worth getting? Thanks! Last edited by Verodoll; 12-01-2010 at 12:07 PM. |

| I bought PetPlan insurance. I got the Silver plan twelve thousand per year. I also took a fifty dollar deductible and this was 383.69 per year. You can get lower prices than this. I have not had to use this yet and hopefully I don't but you never know what is in the future for illness in our furbabies. My little girl is turning 8 months old and I wanted something for her. Hope this helps and I am sure other YT members will be glad to help you too. |

| This thread was a good discussion about pet insurance. I like the security that having insurance provides, knowing that I'll be able to get my babies the care they need. I have several yorkies and I worried what would happen financially if one or more got sick/injured at the same time....now I don't have to worry. But, if I only had one or two pets I would seriously consider putting a set amount back each month just for their medical care, rather than paying insurance premiums. That method depends a lot on how disciplined a person is, though. So for many, insurance is the best answer. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...used-help.html

| I was reading reviews on pet insurance and a lot of them are rip-offs according to user reviews. Most say that when the time comes to use the insurance, they will give a lame answer as to why the pet will not qualify and dodge paying any expenses. I would die if this happened! Saving a little every month on my own sounds like a very, very good idea. |

| I have VPI for both my dogs and my bird. It seems like they deny a ton of our claims. Gilmore just had luxiating patella surgery. It cost 2900. I will let you know how much they reimburse for. I have a bad feeling its not much. I am thinking about getting rid of it. |

| When I got Zhoie, I seriously researched and debated what would be in her best interest. I opted against getting it, only because I don't believe the reimbursement is what I would expect. I do however, have funds put aside in the event it is needed. I think it is an individual choice and what works best for you and your circumstances. Also, I love my girl with all my heart. However, as much as I would want to go to depersate measures to save her, I know in my heart there is a limit of what I would put either one of us through. That too, is a choice for each individual and what they believe is the best for their baby and to what degree of treatment and lengths they are willing to go to. Oh, and Clark Howard gave a big on pet insurance..LOL. I love watching him and getting financial tips. haha

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It's too late for me (ostensibly) to get Pet Ins for Wylie and Marcel. But, I did get PetPlan for Pfeiffer right when I got her. The reason I got it was not bc I expected anything (at all) to go wrong, but only bc of my experience with *not* having it for Wy and Marcel; so, I wanted to see if it would be worth it...and...get it before she had any pre-existing conditions (ie, like what happens if you get it later, when the dog is older). I've filed around 5 claims for Pfeiffer, and none of them have been denied. I think we've been reimbursed about 900-1k, or so? PetPlan has been great for her - I'm definitely keeping it. If you see/read that other thread, you can see that other people haven't had the best luck w/ PetPlan, which is really too bad - bc I'm not sure what happened there ...but if it were me, I too would be upset. I'll be getting Ins for every pup I ever get, going forward. I wish I had purchased it for the boys when they were younger.

Have I obtained insurance, yes. But, here's my experience with it. I have a boy that required Major Surgery due to an accident. The insurance I obtained would only cover 80 % of the costs incurred. That being said, I still had to pay for services out of pocket and then had to be reimbursed. But, I wasn't reimbursed until a major battle with the carrier. Yep, they worked hard on not paying it. Pet Insurance Providors have a team of vets on staff that go through every claim and work hard at not to honor claims. These vets provided me with a letter telling me my boy's problem was due to a genetic issues and because of this they would not honor the claim. I had to go back to my vet and a Specialist and have them provide all the x-rays, procedures and submit all their information proving their arguement on truama. I finally was reimbursed....6 months later.

| Wow Patty I am not happy reading that about Pixie's LP surgery. I am definitely going to drop the insurance now. What is the point of paying out all that money if they won't reimburse for the big expenses??? That for me was the whole point of the insurance. Had I put away the amount I am paying for the insurance I would be better off. |
