| I had to switch vets because our first one insisted on giving everything under the sun, despite the fact that my dogs are groomed at home, never boarded, and not really out in the wild. Our new vet agrees that my dogs are low risk and need only the minimum on vaccs. Max had his 3-year rabies last month and today we go in for our parvo/distemper. Wish us luck! |

I have one that is more natural and one that has a phd from ucdavis and i deal with a dentist, dermatologist, internal medicine specialist, and dr jean dodds. The one that is more natural is always booked solid so hard to get into in an emergency and she is not real up to date on alot of new medicines like atopica and why i had to find another one but her vaccine protocol is in line with jean. Then i have the ucdavis phd vet who is very sharp and did bats on dd as never heard of that but he is very much in line with aggressive approach in terms of medications which makes me nervous. Still hoping to find one with the best of both but until then work with specialists and work with who is best for the situation at hand and until then i learn, learn, learn lolllll | |

Yorkie Yakker | Stupid question I guess Okay so Henesey is my first Yorkie! My vet says it is a must to get her like 6 different vac's! I only want to do what best for her so if one of you dont mind explaining this to me Henesey and I would GREATLY APPRICIATE it! Shes my world and I dont want anything to happen to her! My husband has a boxer/ pit mix and he only gets her a rabies shot every 3 years but I thought it was different for small dogs! Henesey seems so fragile and im very OVER PROTECTIVE we spend $60 a month on food cause our vet said its best for her! She just turned one and already ive spend at least $2000 on her between vet food and spoiling her..... Money isnt the issue but I dont want her to get sick or nothing! So please some one HELP me to understand whats best for them!

There is a vaccine thread in the YT Library. That a good place to start. DHPP is necessary for all dogs who can tolerate it, but definitely not yearly.

| I haven't read up on everything yet I need to my Labs are due for Heart Worm,Yearly checkup and now that we have Yorkies, I don't want to do anything to hurt them(as why i'm doing my homework on food to as i'm changing ALL there food.) My 2 younger ones had there at 6weeks and the 11week old just had her first set so there "due"(by vet) at the end of the month what should they get? My vet is pretty good about listing to me i've been using him since 2001 we haven't talked about this yet as i'm new to this. I thought they "HAD" to have these shots. Thanks for the advice |

Yorkie Yakker | not really. The vet said the food is best for her. Said its because of her teeth and that it will help keep them healthy! She just turned one last month and she really doesnt have anything wrong with her teeth. I brush them once a week as told by my vet and she has pearly whites I just never had a reason to daught her so i did as told but now im questioning it all and I really just want her to be healthy and happy. She didnt really take to the food at first but now she eats it fine, so i dont know what to do now!

By the way, teeth should be brushed 3-4 times a week minimum, but preferably 1-2 times daily.

no it royal something I'll look at it when i get off work and let you know! I had no Idea I should brush her teeth that much. I will start doing it after she eats! or should i do it before? Im so confused. I did research for a year before I got her and my vet seems to be giving me the wrong information! I will be doing more research myself and less listening to my vet. What about her hair? The vet said it was okay to use shampoo with out conditioner but i always use conditioner because her hair gets tangle easy if i dont! What type do you all use?

Shampoo needs to be designed for dogs. They require a different pH. You will get lots of suggestions in the grooming section.
