| What could be wrong?? Not drinking water, yelping Hi All, I am worried about my poor Gibson, and I have no idea what could be wrong. Since Tuesday, he sometimes yelps when he is picked up, but when I press around his belly and the surrounding area, he doesn't yelp. He also won't drink water for some reason. I have a bowl of water, a bowl of 50/50 water/gatorade and a bowl of 50/50 soy milk/water, down to see if he drinks any of those but so far he isn't. He can't get comfortable and turns in little circles, lays down, but gets up again and does the same thing. My BF took him on a walk yesterday but cut it short because Gibson was walking really slow, and he even carried him back home. Thinking he was constipated, I gave him canned pumpkin yesterday, and he did poo this morning, but he is still acting a little off. I work from home so thankfully I can monitor him the rest of the day, and am thinking of taking him in to the vet later today if he is still acting this way. I can't think of what it may be, other than maybe eating grass at the baseball field last Sunday He kept running around and eating grass, and I had to keep telling him not to. I haven't changed his diet or anything so I'm really clueless, and worried. Any ideas?

| I'm not going to try to guess at what could be wrong because there are so many possibilities. If he were mine, he'd be the the vet immediately.

| Umm..gee thanks Ellie. Can anyone offer a more helpful, less condescending response? I'm actively monitoring him, he's still walking around, but just a little less active than he usually is. Thanks

You will probably call me condescending and unhelpful, too, but I agree with Krystal. There is no way anyone on the internet can guess at what is causing his discomfort. I would take him to the vet also. | |

| Usually eating grass is a sign of an upset belly but some eat grass because they like it. Did Gibson have a normal poop? If you use pee pee pads did the urine look okay?

| Hi Tessa, No he isn't limping, but his symptoms did seem to get worse after the walk. He actually seemed ok yesterday even though he yelped when we picked him up the night before. Thank you ladymom, no I do not think that, just felt the "if he were mine" comment was a bit uncalled for. I will probably be taking him to the vet this afternoon. Hopefully everything turns out fine.

| 2girls, his poop looked fine this morning, just a little orange because of the pumpkin. I gave him a little more this morning as well. His pee looks fine as well. I keep pressing him in various areas to see if he yelps again but he doesn't, it only happens when he is picked up sometimes, not all the time. I thought it was constipation but I'm starting to wonder if its something different. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's nothing major. thanks for your help

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You say, "he sometimes yelps when he is picked up . . . also won't drink water for some reason." I say, not drinking water is very serious, and yelping when they are picked up indicates pain. I agree with the others, I'd see a vet ASAP. My son's dog occasionally yelped when he was picked up , and they didn't know if it was a spinal problem or intestinal problem, lots of tests later, he was diagnosed with pancreatitis.

| I hope Gibson is feeling better real soon. Keep checking for a wet nose and pink gums, little pups dehydrate so quick. You may want to take him in to be checked out, seems like you eliminated the obvious. Keep us posted

| Sounds to me as if your pup needs to be examined by a vet. I don't know what upset you about the "if he were mine" comment. That is what people on YT should give...honest advice. I can tell you that, if he were mine, he would have already been at a vet or I would have called my vet. That is the very best advice I can give. I am not even going to try to surmise what is wrong......his symptoms do not sound like something I would want to watch for much longer. I hope you are going this afternoon as you suggested. Please let us know how he is. Hopefully it is a minor thing!

| Just wanted to drop in and give a quick update. I'm taking Gibson to the vet right now and hoping its nothing major. He went poop again, and it was smaller and more pebble like, so I'm not sure if that indicates anything. He looks like he's doing better, hasn't yelped since earlier, and is jumping on and off the couch just fine, but he is still walking around slowly and cautiously and still won't drink anything. I will update when we get back. Fingers crossed!!
