| I didn't realize she was a puppy, and a small one at that, when I first responded. I would definitely get bloodwork first before anything. Also, eating a not-so-good food is better than not eating a very good food. Just to keep in mind. Cesar makes a puppy food too,(check the pkg for feeding instructions/amounts, what I quoted you was from adult dog food) and it has a sauce in it that will get on the people food and maybe over a few days to a week or two, she make get a taste for it. You could try handfeeding her too if you haven't already. You won't have to do it all the time, just to get her to where she'll eat some of the dog food. It will be better as it has all the vitamins and minerals in it that a growing pup needs. Maybe try some doggy treats, as they have vit/min in them too. And give each thing 3 or 4 tries. Mine look at me like I'm nuts when I first offer them something new, turn up the nose and walk away. But I keep offering and usually by day 4 they're begging for the new item. Good Luck and I'll check back to see how she's doing!

| picky yorkie Our Chloe was the same way. She only wanted canned Nature's Recipe - so I tried the kibble variety, she was not interested. The food that helped was BilJac. BilJac does contain corn but it is marketed for having 4lbs of chicken in a 6 lb bag. It also comes in pellets which makes it very easy to eat. I am funny about giving dogs corn, so I am switching her to TOTW Wetlands formula, but she is not eating too much. |

| It's kinda odd, but works for me. Try sitting next to her or hand feeding her the kibble. |

Walk out of the room holding her bowl like its your plate/bowl sit and pretend to eat it make yummy noises and get really into "eating" it when shes REALLY intrested in what you have give her a piece of chicken from the bowl let her eat it then put bowl on the floor. | My little guy got picky also. We were feeding him wellness dry kibble and then the wellness canned food. All of the sudden he stopped eating this combo unless I added scrambled eggs. I decided to stop paying 2.75 for a can of chicken dog food and bought a package of chicken thighs and chicken livers - boiled them in a little water, cut the chicken off the bones and threw the deboned chicken thighs and livers in the food processor. I froze this mixture in little containers. I give him a teaspoon mixed with his wellness kibble at his morning and evening meals - he licks the bowel!!! Chicken is always on sale and this recipe is actually cheaper than the wellness canned food and he loves it. |

| Need Help Hi, I am new to this forum and don't even know how to start my own thread. I rescued an adult yorkie and having trouble getting her to eat as well. She had a sister she grew up with and my mom took her sister in. They were both originally eating Cesars, but the vet told me the dog I have has tartar on back teeth so I got her to start eating dry food - 'Wellness small bites for toy breeds' and 'Wellness treats'. She was eating it ok. I was also giving her Nutrident treats. Now she stopped eating. She only eats occasionally if I hand feed her and even turns down some of her treats. I love her so much and want her to have the best so I am trying to get her on a dry dog food that is the healthiest for a small toy dog.. she is about 5 lbs. I now am trying to get her to eat: Pure Vita, Lotus, Acana or Natural Planet Organics... I do not know much about dog food but the pet shops told me Lotus and Acana are best. One person told me Lotus was better because Arcana is too high in protein and could hurt their tiny livers after too long a period of feeding them this. I do not want to start with table food because I think that will only make things harder. Can anyone please comment on the best dry dog food and what I should do to get her to start eating again [aside from feeding wet or table food]. Also does anyone know why PetzLife Oral Gel is not sold in any pet store? Was it recalled or is it dangerous, ineffective? I went to petgoods, petsmart, petland and petco yesterday and they did not have it and never even heard about it. I am also looking for a good gel to use to help her teeth. Thanks so much. |

| Yorkie won't eat. It is very unlikely that she will let herself starve, but when mine get fussy, I buy a can of beef tripe. I don't give mine much, maybe a half tsp mixed really well in their food. Seems to do the trick most times (stinks real good to them...lol). I also make home made chicken soup (no onions) if they have not been well and that goes into their food in reducing amounts until they are pretty much back to dog food. I currently feed Acana Small breed, they prefer the adult though, and will steal it from my Rottweilers raised bowl., very funny. For teeth, all my dogs get a raw bone once a month. The little guys get lamb knuckles and the 2 big guys get bison knuckles. My vet said she has never seen such good teeth on a yorkie at 6 yrs old. My big guy is 10 and we took him in for a dental checkup, no work needed at all. His teeth are in perfect condition. Good luck with your baby, you have come to the right place, this site is amazing. | I home cook (supplemented with BalanceIt) for my little girl, but I also use kibble as a back up when I go to work and I don't want to leave fresh food that could spoil if left out too long. I have researched a lot of food, and I mostly feed Fromm Four Star Nutritionals, but I also feed Orijen and Acana. I've also heard excellent things about Nature's Logic. Fromm is a small company that has never had a recall, and their customer service is excellent. You probably should start a new thread, so that you can get more responses. Welcome to YorkieTalk. | Try feeding her Blue. My little guy would not eat anything, except if we hand fed or home cooked his food and then hand fed him. Our vet thought I was crazy. I switched to Blue dry for petite dogs (any flavor, but he likes the fish the most) and I also put a little of the canned food (Blue) his favorate is Hunter's Stew. The first time he just stood and looked at it waiting for me to feed him. But when my larger goldendoodle started moving towards his food bowl and took a few bites, my little yorkie stepped up and started eating. I have never hand fed him again. Yorkies are manipulative and very picky eaters if you let them be. My vet told me that it would not hurt him to miss a meal and he was right, all it took was loosing a few bites of HIS food and he decided to eat on his own. |

| You know what, if you give Acana and Orijen, I don't think it would be a problem if a meal or two are skipped because she's spoiled. My BEI often does this too, considering that the table meal is more interesting for him. So I always do the trick that everyone suggest, give him the meal twice or thrice a day and never leave the bowl, just let the bowl there for 20 minutes and take it away, never give him snack between and wait til the next meal time. The max he skipped 2 meal times around and didn't eat anything for 40 hours (almost 2 days). And this is what makes me happy with Orijen and Acana, even if he doesn't eat for a long time, he won't vomit yellow at all, it shows quality. I remember previously I used RC and when he was like this and didn't want to eat, I always worried as he often vomitted yellow with empty stomach for only more than 12 hours. So don't worry and be strong about this, believe that no dog would want to commit suicide, especially if they know there's a family loving them sincerely, but we shouldn't also spoil them, because yorkies are especially picky eaters.

| My marley is 10 and he WILL NOT eat any dog food. he does eat the soft dog food. His breath has gotten SO bad that it is unbearable to even be around. about a month ago i took him to get his teeth cleaned and he did have 4 pulled. Its been a month and I would have to say his breath is not better if not worse. His tummy always feel bloated. He seems to be depressed. but at points during the day he will be completely fine and want to play. Im not sure what is going on with his breath, if it is an internal thing? has anyone had this issue? |

| Call the vet who did the dental to make sure he does not have an infection from the dental. The bloating can also be 'gas'. I will pray for him. I hope his health improves. Try putting an additive in his water that is safe to freshen his breath. I know Tropiclean makes one and the product is supposed to be all natural. I am currently using their gel on my dogs teeth. But consult with your vet before using anything. |

| dogs should have portions of food in proportion to their weight, she may have over eaten and just barfed for that reason, daily 2% of body weight unless she's still a pup then daily it's 6-10%. I recommend the cooked chicken (I boiled it for Teegy and Tufty for the transitioning to raw) and add a few items you know she likes and will eat but make sure it's mainly the protein, be sure to cook up some organ meats and puree those to add as she needs those too. If you can get a digestive enzyme and a probiotic and keep them in the house, mixing them into the food will help her digest them and settle her stomach too |
