| Try mixing both dog food and table food. I bake 1 thin sliced chicken breastfeeding and shred it. Then I mix it with grain free Earth born Holistic. If it's been in the fridge, I pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to bring to room temp and I usually don't have a problem with him eating. |

| thanks... here is what has been working for me Thanks to all who suggested cooking chicken breast... I feel ok feeding it since so many of you feed it to your yorkies... Since I have an older 'adopted' yorkie, I am happy to get her to eat anything other then the junk food Cesars she was use to. I am concerned about her getting a balanced nutritional diet so I get her to eat Wellness Dry food for toy breeds in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. How do I do this? Some of you suggested playing and hand feeding... It works. It gets her metabolism going... I know this is going to sound strange to some, but I play "Joyful Joyful Lord We Adore Thee" upbeat version EVERY morning and she eats and plays while the song is on. [geez... I know some of you think I am crazy]. Then on some nights, I will give her 1/2 a baked chicken breast cut up. I use no seasoning on the chicken breast. I read salt and spices are bad for them. She won't eat WET food from Lotus or other manufacturers. The wet food smells wretched. I figure the chicken is people food and fit for human consumption so it is healthier for her then the wet food. Once in a while I give her a scrambled or hard boiled egg chopped up. ANYONE KNOW WHAT VEGGIES ARE GOOD FOR YORKIES? |

| Thanks. Where would I find a nutritionally balanced simple homemade recipe Hi, thanks... I am very concerned about my Yorkie getting the nutrition she needs... What dry kibble do you use that has a good nutritional balance AND how much do you feed? Do you know where I would find a good supplement or a homemade simple recipe that is nutritionally balanced? thanks again!! |

| My 3 Yorkies over the years have all loved it when I soak their kibble(whatever brand I've been using on whatever dog I had at the time) until soft, microwave it so that part of it is hard but the center is still soft-ish and cool it to warm, then feed it to them. I put a microwave out on the utility porch just so I could do that as it stinks up the house something awful if you cook it in the regular kitchen microwave. Still, I have baked treats made from softened, beaten kibble paste or dough in the regular oven and had to air out the house afterward but the dogs all ate them up.

If you wish to do home cooking and your dog has no special medical problems, I've heard that the supplement "Balance It" is very useful in creating a balanced diet using human foods, for example, a boiled meat, a starch, like rice, corn, pasta, and a vegetable like green beans. You add the Balance It in the prescribed amount, and it's suppose to provide the necessary nutrients. Their website helps you create your own recipes based on your dogs likes, but you must remember that Yorkies are prone to pancreatitis and high fat meats that larger breeds can sometimes handle can send the Yorkie to the emergency room. So be careful on which meats you use. https://secure.balanceit.com/
