| Yorkies and exercise How much do you exercise your yorkie? I've often wondered about this, how much is enough? How much is too much? I walk with my Lily three times a day. The first two walks lasts about 15 - 20 minutes. And then we walk for 30 - 40 minutes in the evening. Saturday and Sunday we have longer walks, about an hour or a little more. The plan is to go for even longer walks as soon as the snow disappears and the weather gets warmer. Also, I am planning on training agility with her. I have read that yorkies need almost no physical exercise, but this idea seems all wrong to me. After all, they are dogs, and little Lily has a lot of energy. So I'm curious of how much exercise yor all give your yorkies. I've never had one before and I don't want to do anything wrong with my little sweetheart. | Right now i take Ella out for about 5-10 mins. 3 times a day, b/c the weather is bad, just so she can potty. She plays w/ her toys inside for long periods of time, such as fetching up and down the long hallway. During the warm months she goes out 3 times a day for around 30 mins. and walks at the park on the weekends. I live no where near sidewalks and it's hard to walk Ella down my road w/ cars whipping by.

| I seldom walk Sugar, because there are a lot of cats around (they are double, triple Sugar's size), and some stray dogs too...however, she loves walking, running jumping (in the house). These activities take at least 4 hours a day, just like "Energizer Bunny", non-stop!

| I hardly ever take Rusty for a walk outside of our yard either because of so many stray dogs. We have a huge yard though so he gets plenty of excercise in the yard. He also gets a ton in the house because he is chasing the cat around(she likes it!), or wrestling with Stedman or playing with the boys. By 9pm he is laying on the couch completely worn out asleep so I figure he must be getting plenty!

| Well, it's been cold and snowy so this doesn't count for recently but typically, he goes for 1 walk per day being about 30 minutes-1 hour. Weekends we started walking about 4 miles. 1-3x per week we go to the dog park for a minimum of an hour in a half, usually two hours. We also try to do nightly games of fetch indoors for about 10-15 minutes plus our "trick training" once a day, which I think can be considered some form of exercise. He's a very active little dog and would be happy going all day.

| I don't walk Missy. Everytime I try she makes it a couple of blocks and then just stops. I do take her out in public with me several times a day, and both the girls go for stroller rides regularly. Dora is still a puppy, but I have a feeling she will be a totally different story. She may be my walker. She is far more adventurous and full of energy. I'm just waiting for her new harness from Chattiesmom to arrive and we will give walking a try.

| I agree! Wookie is so high energy, I can't imagine what he'd do if he didn't get exercise. Whenever I know he has to make number 2, that's when we take a longer walk around our complex. We're usually out for about 10 minutes 3 times a day. He also plays pretty hard with our Basenji and we play fetch inside. Yorkies need something to do or else I can imagine them resorting to destructive behavior.

| I walk Zeus about an hour in the morning and about 20-30 minutes in the evening. If time does not permit we will do about 30 minutes twice a day. He does really well but I gradually increased our walks. I agree big or small they all need some form of exercise. |

YT Addict | With Lexi, I find that she is up for anything but is content running around the house playing with the other dogs/cats. On average she goes to the dog park 3-5 times a week for an off leash romp (typically we're out there for about 1/2-1 hour). I think all yorkies need exercise! My neighbors have 2 small dogs, one yorkie and another mix - they are sure yappy little things but I'm sure that if they got out for more walks it would help. I haven't seen them walk their dogs since we moved it over 2 years ago! To me, a tired dog is a happy dog and a happy dog is a good dog
