| ![]() We're in MO and the mosquitos could be around most the year too; however, I wondered if anyone thought it absolutely necesssary to get the heartworm test yearly, since they are on medicine all year - but maybe you meant those nasty little buggers could sneak a bite in on the dogs and they should be tested even though they stay on medicine all year. |

While it is not common for a pup to get heartworms while on preventatives, it is possible. I test my pups yearly. They have a yearly check up anyway and the test does not cost so much that I would take any kind of a risk like that. If you never test and one does get heartworms, by the time you find out they will be terribly ill. I personally would rethink this.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My vet charges $35.00 for a visit, $18.00 to recheck same problem within 30 days, and n/c if you're (your dog I mean) getting vaccines.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() My regular vet charges $50 for regular office call, and I think $60 for a "sick dog" office call. Wylie's internist is $135 for office call, and the Dermatologist is $115.

| ![]() I think if it's a sick/injury visit it is $50ish, but it's a little cheaper if it's a scheduled check-up. |

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() My old vet charged $41.25 for just the office call. My new vet charges 38.00 regardless how many come in for appts. Plus my vet likes when I do research on my own, she says she likes not having to explain every minute detail.

| ![]() I know this post is old, but I had the same question and found this post. I was wondering if I was being overcharged or was our vet charging the norm-- so I will share my costs thus far. Our first vet visit, for wellness check and booster shot, was $250 and included the following: New client fee $53 Maxx had an ear infection, so the cytology was $29 They automatically, with out telling me, charged me for a small container they gave me to take home to bring back a stool sample--thus incurring pre-charged fee for the test $37 Also they told me about heartguard and how I would need a preventative, but I didn't realize they were giving it to me and automatically charging me until I checked out $53 Animax/Panalog $38 (i have no idea what this was, i think the ear infection formula) DAPP Booster shot $34 Waste Disposal $3 Our second visit, which I made for just a booster shot, was $86 for the following: DAPP Booster $34 Waste Disposal $3 Exam $49 Last edited by Dany001; 07-12-2010 at 09:23 AM. |

| ![]() Now and office call is $13 and an exam is about $38.50. Charging an exam or not is at the vet's discretion. Before we were paying about $40 for both combined. A basic blood panel, CBC, and heartworm test is $54.
