How much does your vet charge for an office visit?

A "new client fee?" I think that is ridiculous!

Chicago is expensive for just about everything. I'm in the SW suburbs and not only do I love my vet but he is very reasonable. It all depends on where you live in the city as to what the prices that are charged. Some of the charges that you have listed I would consider high or my vet would not charge. The Heartguard is not what I use but even that seems high. If I remember correctly all my puppy visits were under $100 and I have never been precharged for anything.

New client fee is also something that I was not charged either. Just an office visit which I think is around $35.

I hope everyone is ready to be appalled because I was .... $80/visit!!!!! I guess Florida can be added to the ridiculous states.

I may change vets now that spaying is over with( I did a spay voucher program so I had to use a specific vet & wanted to check them out) even tho I do like this vet ... $80 is a lot of $$$!!!

I actually live in the NW suburbs, with these prices I wish I was still in the city--after being in the NW burbs for a year now, I feel like the cost of living here is actually more than it was when I lived in Hyde Park 7 miles from downtown Chicago.

I've been researching vet's online all day and found one in Stone Park that is very low cost--I called and asked a few questions, and there won't be a new client fee!!! lol I added up what my total would be for the next boost, then rabies a few weeks later, then neuter, and mircochip and is should only be around $100-150 for everything--so I am definitely going there to check their facilities out... I wish I found them sooner

I pay $45 for the visit and then everything else is added on from there.

I know there are other less expensive and I'm sure just as qualified vet offices out there - but I choose to stay. I like the vet, the grooming facilities, the office help and the cleanliness. If I was younger or if I didn't have the finanical means, then I would def. shop around.

Stone park isnt the best town, but that doesnt mean that the vet is bad. Oak park Animal care league does neuter for $75.00 and microchip for $15.00.
I got hannah sprayed there along with my german shepard and know a lot of other people that have used them. If your low income you can also get shots for super cheap, but i dont qualify for that. The neuter and chip you dont have to have a certain income level for.

I go to VCA and its $56 for just the visit... ITS NUTS and I need to find somewhere else, but I am having a hard time doing that.

Thanks for the info, I'd never heard of the town Stone Park before--I am definitely going to check out what the facilities are like before using them. They told me by phone I wouldn't need a to become a new patient--since I just want to get his last booster & rabies done there in two visits.

I was also looking into the Anti-Cruelty Society Vet downtown for the neuter and microchip, I will look into the Oak Park Society as well--thanks.

It just doesn't make sense to me to use my current vet and pay another $400 for last 2 shots/microchip/neuter. I will however continue to go to my current vet if I have any emergencies.

There is a brand new low cost clinic right near me in the SW Suburbs. I know its a bit of a drive for you but the place is beautiful and they are super reasonable. This is not the vet that I use but I love my vet and his prices are very comparable. They even do low cost dentals too.

What about PAWS Chicago. They also have a clinic but you need to live in one of the listed zip codes. But I would call them as well and ask where else you could go.

Our regular vet retired, but his office visit was $25. The vets we have visited have ranged from $40-$60 for the office visit with everything else tacked on. We had an emergency this weekend, our puppy was injured while out of town, the closest vet charged $35 for the check up, $35 for afterhours (it was midnight) and then xrays, medication there, and medication to take home totaled $80. Total bill $150..well worth it. The vets in my home town don't do after hours. There is on ER vet that they all refer to and it is $150 just to walk in the door.

My vet doesn't charge for a seperate office visit. He only charges if they receive shots of other services.

The last time I went to the vets I took 2 dogs with me, both needed check ups, shots including rabies and I needed a bag of prescription dog food.(29.00). Cost me 85.00 dollars.... Im pretty sure that they charge 25.00 per visit, but they give you a discount if you bring in more than one. I LOVE,LOVE my vets!!

I get charged 63.00 for an office visit and 44.00 for a recheck. 90.00 for an emergency just to walk in the door. I have paid plenty of these fees

Yeah! as if we didn't get charged enough!!!
In NYC They charge about $65~$85 for just initial visit.
Last time I checked vets in the city charged about $650 for routine teeth cleaning. With 5 babies that will add up to over $3000!!!!
I had to take them to the out of city vet which cost me about half.
hmmm.... ..... I wonder when was the last time I went to dentist.....

I go to one of the VCA ones and it's like $51 for a visit... ugh! I like my vet but I'm kind of wondering if there's something better and cheaper out there! I don't know how to begin searching though.
