| How to prevent luxating patella? I've been reading a lot of posts on this site concerning luxating patella. My question is... is there any way to decrease the chances that my puppy will have a luxating patella in the future? I know I should prevent her from jumping up and down a lot. Would giving her cosequin and glucosamine supplements be OK? Or should she only get those supplements if she does have luxating patella? Are there any side effects to these supplements? |

| My little Dorkie was diagnoised with bilateral luxating patellas and they said it might need surgery if it didn't calm down. They were going out every other step sometimes. I found an animal chiropractor, both of her hips were out of alignment and the tendon from the hips to the knee was just flopping around. After her 3rd or 4th adjustment her hips started to hold and now she only goes once a month. I'm so thankful we found the chiropractor because its a lot less painful and a lot cheaper than surgery. |

| Yes, a lot of problems come from HOW they land - although a softer surface is certainly better than a hard floor. The steps are really a great idea. Walmart, Walgreens and Petsmart usually have some under $20 that are great to use with sofas & chairs. I've recently switched from stairs to ramps because my oldest has such bad arthritis and other problems that the stairs just got to be too much for him.
