| Ugghh fleas!!!!! UGGGHHH!!!! Ok, so my friend has a dog that I trim for her every few months (mini schnauzer, mini australian shepard). She brought the little guy over and I was about half way done with the cut when I noticed a flea jump on me!!!!! I tried to be polite but was seriously ticked off. I keep my dogs treated every month (except Raeley as she might be pregnant), my cats are indoor cats (less risk) and I give my dogs a bath often and check for ticks and fleas every time. My friend lets her cat wander around her neighborhood, and her dog wander around as well. Thank goodness they were all up to date on their shots! She didn't even know the dog had fleas. She couldn't even do her own research on how to get rid of them. She called me for advise. I told her what we had found that was a home remedy (hopefully it works), as I was being a good friend. But what kind of pet owner doesn't take the means to help treat her animals from this problem. She just irratates me that she bought this dog knowing it was going to take time to groom, but she doesnt take the time to do it unless its almost to late. I'm not saying my dogs are pefect and couldn't bring them in the house, but we have been very good at making sure that didnt happen. So now my hubby and I are tearing the house apart and deep cleaning it to reduce the spread of the fleas. We are going to be doing a weekly carpet cleaning program going just incase there were female fleas on the dog. Sorry guys just had to vent!!!!

| It just makes me so mad!!!! That sucks that your friend didn't tell you what she was using your vaccum for! What are you doing to get rid of them? My husband found a home remedie that we used yesterday (1 day after the incident) to help control it before it gets out of hand. Now we have to repeat it constantly just to make sure we kill the fleas before they get the chance to lay more eggs and start the process over again. Here is what we are using for our carpet: 1 cup borax, 1 cup table salt, 1 cup baking soda. Your suppose sprinkle it into your carpet and then sweep it into your carpet and leave it overnight. Then vaccum it up in the morning and throw out the contents of the bag/canister immediatly as soon as your done. We aren't able to leave it in our carpet over night with having small children and cats, so we went from room to room and left it on for 30 minutes. I'll be locking up my cats tomorrow and the whole gang (my kids, and my 3 fur butts) will be heading out of the house for a few hours tomorrow as I will be retreating the carpets and leaving it brushed into the carpet for a few hours to do some more flea killing.

| must be a bad summer for fleas we have had them all over the house but thankfully they are gone, i think. We used dawn dish soap and then we sprayed a natural flea spray on the funiture (no carpet)and every one left the house for a few hours and we bombed during that time i went to the vet for capstar whitch kills all fleas on the skin in 30 min and when we got back everyone waited in thear crates in the back yard while i scrubbed everything in boiling water with the carpet scrubber even the floors i added dish soap to the water and then i used borax and suger to get them out of my yard its been almost a week and i havent seen eny that have been alive so it might be worth a try |

| I put stuff on my dogs all year round to keep the fleas out of the house. Apparently our yard doesn't seem to be the breeding ground they like , so we haven't had much problem with them bringing it in. So far we have yet to see any damage from my friends dog, but it could still be months before there is. So hopefully the steps we are taking now will prevent it from getting too bad.

| Sorry but your friend sounds like the average pet owner being clueless and careless about flea prevention. So many people get a dog for looks but don't want to invest in the upkeep/ let the cat roam everywhere outside and the dog too/ want a cheap and lazy way out for grooming, feeding, and everything else. There are those pet owners who also feed their pets the cheapest food on the market when they can afford better, and leave the dogs to always live outside with an ugly and nasty water and food pan. They barely ever take them to the vet, or walk them, or train them. And they wonder why their backyard looks a mess. Of course there are also those that do extensive agility training with their dogs, or who brag about the balls and frizzbe's they can catch and having a Canine Citizen Award, but then look at people who treat their pets as their children (spoil them, feed them extremely well cooked food, take them everywhere they go, dress them, put them in doggy day care/school and give them plenty of love and a great home life... etc, etc, etc) like they are nuts. Okay...I was venting. Back to the fleas. That is just terrible because those things multiply fast and furious and will make your home a nightmare to relax in. |

| I know exactly what your talking about. She seemed totally clueless as what could have caused her dog to have fleas. And to start it off when she picked up the dog from the breeder it had fleas to begin with. The breeder gave it a 3-month treatment and a shot for horses(?). Doesn't sound like the breeder was really monitoring her place very well either. I'm not saying that all breeders don't have fleas (its part of having animals going outside), but it just erkked me!! And to boot she wants one of my puppies if my gal is pregnant. Now why would I give you a dog when you don't even take great care of the animals you already have. She didn't start training her dog till it was almost a year old, she doesn't call the vet when something happens, she calls me. I don't know what kind of food she feeds her animals, but all of my animals are feed Science Diet (its not cheap in my books). I have a hard time affording that for my dogs when we're low on the money, but my pets get just as good as care as my children (yep they even get clothes). I feel that if your animals are part of your family they should be treated like family. Best food you can afford, all your shots, clothes (it gets cold here during the winter), and attention. Sorry started ranting as well. It just bothers me when some of us try so hard and then there are people like that, that care for their animals just enough to get by. No offense to anyone. I'm just irrate of the fleas issue and how she didn't even think about fleas until I told her about them!

| That's what I thought. For a horse? Common that could seriously cause something to go wrong with the puppy. I guess this lady creates designer breeds. Basically mixing something with something to get the coloring she wants. She lives in Durango or somewhere further. I am definitly not going to her for a dog thats for sure. So my friend didn't get her dog fixed either. She wants to breed him back to another dog that the breeder has or will be having. She is already so clueless that I'm just scratching my head on why she thinks she has the time to deal with a litter of puppies. Let alone figure out the genetics of breeding (she very well could in-breed). But anyways, no fleas to speak of yet. Hopefully we caught it all in time only time will tell. Seeing as it will snow here in the next two months I don't think I will need to worry about them surviving outside for much longer. I just don't want my house to be a breeding ground during the winter (we burn wood and coal all winter) since it will be in the 70-80 degrees in my house all winter.

| She should not breed that poor puppy back, that is for sure I know there are a lot of people making money on the mixed designer breeds and some of them are very cute dogs, but people get careless with the bloodlines and cause more health issues. I know people here with those problems. Large vet bills are no joke. I know you are happy about not having any fleas. It will be too cold for them to pop up there in the winter and I hope if some are around they freeze to death, for your peace of mind and families sake. They are a pain and the bites itch like crazy. Here in Texas we get them real bad. |
