| Vectra Flea Control I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a problem with Vectra? My vet just switched my 8-year-old, nine-pound Yorkie to it from Frontline Plus. He scratched for two days, until I bathed him twice to remove as much of it as possible. Now the vet is recommending a Preventic collar. Has anyone had a problem with these? I hate to use anything on him, but we live where there is Lyme disease. Thanks! |

| Never tried it, but it sounds bad since I read it could be purchased at petsmart according to a site (did a quick google search). I bought a flea medicine at petsmart and later found out it was almost deadly. Well not really but has a TON of side effects. "I have never heard of Vectra before, but a quick google search indicates that the veterinarians are getting some generous kickbacks for pushing this product. Just a heads up." - - Bakersfield.com - At the place I volunteer for the doctor mentioned that many people have been saying how advantage and frontline aren't working as well as they used to and they have to use it more often. He suggested Comfortis. I'm switching over as soon as we run out of advantage.. in 6 months lol. "I actually couldn't find much info about using it for a spot treatment except in a patent application for Hartz (which is owned by the same parent company that owns the maker of Vectra)" (same website as before, Hartz is terrible. Will never buy anything from them.)

| Last summer we had a HUGE flea problem in our house that we couldn't get rid of. The vet gave all four of our dogs/cats vectra and a pill called capstar to get rid of the fleas and we didn't have any problems with them after we applied it and it got rid of the fleas on all of the pets. We liked it! Maybe your yorkie just has sensitive skin and it made him itch?

| Vectra Vectra (for fleas & ticks) is also known as First Sheild Trio. I tried it on Max for one month and had a horrible time with it. I started to notice ticks on him just about every other day! I applied the product, which is very oily by the way, and waited 3 days before giving Max a bath. The vet said I probably need to wait longer before bathing him and that I may have washed some of the product off. My HOA is responsible for treating the yards, which obviously has a tick infestation, but the product should at least protect my dog. I switched to K9 Advantix and now I'm stuck with 4 vials of the Vectra which I paid $60 for. I hope K9 Advantix works better. I haven't seen any on him yet.

| Fleas in Florida are terrible My Kissie is 4 years old. She never had a problem of fleas. Now I'm desperate, we are fighting a severe infestation. Frontline plus, a collar, shampu against fleas, spray, fogger and spray in the carpet and her bed.. I'm doing everything I can to get ride of this problem. But I'm still finding some fleas on my dog. I do not know how to do... |

| Vectra seems to be the new drug being pushed by the vet's. Mine did the same until someone on YT educated me on one of the pesticides in it. I took it back to the vet, got a refund and purchased Frontline plus again from my pet store. Look up Permethrin on line. You won't like what you read. There is 36% of the chemical in Vectra and it can be deadly to your pet! It has already killed dogs that it was used on. I won't use it no matter what the vet say's. Just to inform you so you can make your own decision. |

| It all comes down to what you are comfortable with. I don't like permethrin and both Vectra dn Advantix contain it. For some, there may be no way around its use if Frontline Plus isn't working and you need something for ticks. Comfortis is also very new and there are reports of liver problems caused by it. The newer the product, the less likely I am to use it.

| Advantix and vectra are similar in their mode of action and ingredients. Vectra contains a newer generation insecticide of the same class. Permethrin kills ticks and is the same in both. The growth regular is more broad spectrum in vectra. Fleas seem to be developing resistance to frontline since it has been around so long I would suggest looking into Revolution produced by Pfizer since it is systemic, although applied topically, it is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream allowing it to prevent heartworms. It then relocates to the oil glands in the skin and kills fleas for a month as the oils are released to the skin. It also prevents and treats sarcoptic mange and ear mites. It doesn't kill ticks well but a good tick collar during the height of the tick season usually solves this problem (supplied free by pfizer if purchased from your veterinarian) Many dogs don't have tick problems ...in that case this is a great drug. It costs as much as flea products alone and you are getting heartworm control too. Safe and cost effective. It is also the best flea product for cats since recently heartworms is becoming more recognized as a threat to cats. Since it is transdermal, you also avoid the greasy problem on the skin other products create. |

| Just a quick update...K9 Advantix works great. I haven't had any problems since I changed from Vectra/First Sheild Trio. I also got a refund from Banfield.

| Vectra vs. Frontline, etc. Had always used Frontline and/or Advantage or Advantix, but none are working any longer for our dogs. Our vet recommended Vectra, and it worked for a few days - no adverse reactions from either dog- but then the fleas appeared again. We live on a wooded property with racoons, squirrels, possums, rabbits, and loads of birds, so we had to spray the yard with pyretheium (sp?) and then put Vectra on the pups. We then put diametaceous (sp?) earth all over the yard, and we finally have the fleas under control. |
