Advantix and vectra are similar in their mode of action and ingredients.
Vectra contains a newer generation insecticide of the same class. Permethrin kills ticks and is the same in both. The growth regular is more broad spectrum in vectra. Fleas seem to be developing resistance to frontline since it has been around so long
I would suggest looking into Revolution produced by Pfizer since it is systemic, although applied topically, it is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream allowing it to prevent heartworms. It then relocates to the oil glands in the skin and kills fleas for a month as the oils are released to the skin. It also prevents and treats sarcoptic mange and ear mites. It doesn't kill ticks well but a good tick collar during the height of the tick season usually solves this problem (supplied free by pfizer if purchased from your veterinarian) Many dogs don't have tick problems ...in that case this is a great drug. It costs as much as flea products alone and you are getting heartworm control too. Safe and cost effective. It is also the best flea product for cats since recently heartworms is becoming more recognized as a threat to cats.
Since it is transdermal, you also avoid the greasy problem on the skin other products create. |
