| I am in a Rual town> I shop nearly an hr away just to go to the bigger stores, Walmart, Petsmart, malls , Ect . I totally understand where you are coming from. When I do go out of town, i'll go to Petsmart, and I found a fairly decent kibble to feed Suzi, and the same brand in canned food. She likes it , and the rating is a 4on the kibble and a 6 for the canned. I freed feed Suzi the kibble, then give her the canned a couple times a day as well. I find that on the Rating scales for dog foods , esp. the higher rating it is more about the protein levels that makes the rating. The lower the rating, there are more fillers and "junk" in the dog foods. It is hard to find the right one, and even harder when choices are limited.

| If you do have a Walmart near you, the only food I'd recommend to buy from there is called Maxximumm. Walmart.com: Adult Recipe Lamb & Rice Formula For Dogs of All Breeds Super Premium Dog Food: Dogs It'ss not GREAT but it's the best you'll find at Walmart

| We fed Maxximum for awhile but the Walmarts around here stopped carrying it. In fact I have heard that most areas don't have it anymore. |

| Walmarts here carry Natural Life (it's ok), and they also carry Newman's Own dog food (a little pricy). Maybe you can find others in stores in your area? Just look at the ingredients lists and then you can research the foods online. Also, you can check the websites for several manufacturers. Most have a dealer locator which can help you find a store near you if there is one. The good thing is that Yorkies don't eat too much. I feed 5 dogs, some of which are large dogs, so it gets pretty expensive. Good luck with your search. Last edited by sganow; 06-06-2009 at 07:10 AM. |

| r e l a x Your little Bailey is one lucky guy. You are to be applauded for doing all of this research ahead of time! Remember, whatever food you decide on, start with the same thing the breeder was feeding, and transition slowly If you can't find a great food near you and online doesn't work out for you in Canada, please relax and just do the best you can. I've had 3 dogs who lived long healthy lives on less than 4 star dog food. (I don't even know if good food was available then) Ginger and Bernie are on a pretty decent food, but between really severe allergies (Ginger) and Bernie's special dietary needs, I've gone with the food that they can both digest well without problems. Ratings be darned. Good luck!

Boy do I agree with this, we're always looking for that "best" food, and it remains allusive. Unless your dog has special needs, allergies, or can't handle certain foods, there are many dog foods that will work just fine.
