Anyone feed 2 star dog food? It sucks being in such a small area, the only food available to me at the "higher grade" level is Eukanuba, Ceasar ( Walmart), Nutrience ( pet store) and Medi-Cal ( Vet)..they rate only 2 stars!! I will have to use one of them though because everything else I would have to order online, and shipping is sometimes as much as the food:eek::eek: I read people here use Royal Canin, that is only 2 star as well. |
Hi! Just wanted to let you know beforehand that this is a potentially controversial topic. Have you asked your local pet store to carry a certain brand for you? Some of them will do that. Otherwise, if you find a dog food you want to "commit" to, you can find good deals on shipping food and stock up. Have you requested free food samples? One of the stickies lists the companies that provide them. |
While I wouldn't want to feed a 2 star food, it would probably be a good idea to not pay any attention to the ratings right now and study ingredients and companies for yourself. Not all dogs can eat 5 or 6 star foods and not all 3 or 4 star foods are that bad. While I know most people here do not like Science Diet, they do have a Nature's Best line. I like the chicken type personally. |

 Yikes, I don't want any controversy! The lady that owns the pet store only sells Hagen food, She won't bring in other stuff, it's a very small store. I haven't found a good deal yet on food online..I emailed for samples from the list, and only one so far responded that they would send a sample, I can't remember which one that was now:rolleyes: I |

Good for you for actually taking my advice, as I have not. :p I'm lucky to be in a city where most foods are available, and I can pick up free samples easily. |

Try petfooddirect.com Ilive in a small town too and the quality foods are almost non-existant. We did just get a Petsmart one town over, but they still are limited. I have found ordering from petfooddirect.com is my best bet. I ALWAYS use a coupon code. There is always one available somewhere online and once you start ordering they send them to you at least once a week. So, that usually covers the shipping. They have a variety of things to offer on their site and they usually throw in a free sample or two of something with each order. I have been happy with their service and products. |
I believe it's just that pork can be extremely high in fat and might trigger pancreatis. Of course, pork can also be lean, and other meats can be very fatty. |
