YT Addict | Here, I found it on their website. Video This made me upset. This is one reason I changed vets... Emmetts old vet was over vaccinating him I think.

| Unfortunately this ia an unresearched area and so many vets are unwilling to alter vaccine protocols based on individual patients' needs. If you vet is giving every vaccine every year and refuses to change the schedule, it is time to switch vets.

| Wow. I can't honestly say I am surprised, but it is depressing nonetheless. Boy did that bring back some not so fond memories for me...most of that was filmed at GVS where my bullmastiff went for his weekly chemo treatments and where he also spent quite a bit of time in the ICU. Dr. Hamilton is the one who treated him when he came out of remission...he is the oncologist on staff there. We are definitely going to do the titers when we are due for our annual check-up in December. I can't find a way to get around the bordetella every six months that the doggie daycares require. At least those can be done nasally rather than by injection, so that is "good" if it is indeed the injection that causes the reaction.

| I'd be so mad too, if my vet refused to treat each patient on an individual basis. Perhaps it's time to 'alter' your vet and find one who will listen to your concerns.

| If a medical waiver can be given in the state of NJ and it makes him that sick, there is no reason not to give one. There are plenty of other vets out there...

| I'm not surprised by this at all.....cancer is just one of the problems of vaccines, there's also issues with the kidneys, liver, allergies, aggression and the list goes on and on.... Canine Vaccination Concerns - England .....I understand vaccines have their place but the bigger problem is doctors giving way too many, giving vaccines to soon, giving vaccines that don't work, giving combo vaccines, giving yearly boosters when they are not needed or in the best interest of the pet, etc.,etc......As far as I'm concerned this kind of treatment is malpractice by the vet because this information has been out there for over 15 years and has been documented by Dr. Ronald Schultz as well as Dr. Jean Dodds to name a few..... ....That is why it is soooo important that you do as much reading as possible on this subject so you know what your willing to give and what your not...Ultimately it is YOUR decision on what vaccines you will allow and what you won't ...it's not the vets decision.... This is from a vet..... "After more than twenty years of practicing veterinary medicine, I am observing chronic diseases that begin much earlier than before. Cancer before five years of age in dogs and cats was a rarity, but now it is not unusual to see fatal cancers in two and three year old animals. And the incidence or number of cases is definitely increasing. While poor breeding practices, poor commercial diets and other environmental factors play their part, I believe it is the practice of vaccinating an animal repeatedly, with multiple vaccinations throughout their lifespan that factors the most." -- Dr. Charles Loop

| If it weren't for YT I would still be listening to my vet thinking he was doing what was best for Buddy. Last year for the first time he got so sick after being innoculated with everything the vet had in his office! Encluding rabies after two years when the shot was good for three! I have learned alot this past year in reading up on these vaccines and took control, finally. My old vet does not do tieter testings so I said good bye. We have an appointment with a new vet on 5/28 who will do it and I plan on having an inlength talk with the new vet. He is also a member of the AAHA which the last one was not. Hopefully he will follow what they belive, booster shots every three years unless Rabies has to be given yearly due to your location. I don't care if the testing cost more. If he needs the shots fine, if not at least I know what is going on in his body. I never believed I would be second guessing a doctor but here I am doing just that. It's a time where we all have to take charge of not only our pet's but our own health also. You can't believe everything a doctor tells you. With the internet you can learn so much. I would be on 6 pills daily if I left it up to doctors and I'm healthy! A pill for this, a pill for that, than another just in case. Bull! So many doctor's push pills and innoculations. It's scary. |

YT Addict | The sad thing is alot of Breeders give the puppy shot ourself. I do alot of my own shots, and I have had buyers of puppies to call me saying their vet wanted to redo all their shots, becuase they wasn't done by a vet. I have it wrote down the date the shot was due, the date the shot was given and what the shot was. I will tell the puppy buyer that is up to them to regive the shots, but I can not say what over vaccinions may do to a puppy. I think sometimes it is a money thing with some vets. I am glad that Alabama has now pass a rabies law for every 3 years. We was one of the last states still giving rabies shots every year. |

| One thing to insist on, if your vet is not doing it already-- do NOT allow vaccines to be given directly behind the shoulder blades, as a lot of "old school" vets do it. At the clinic where I work, our vets give the vaccines lower down so that they are actually over one of the limbs, and spread them out one vaccine per limb. It may sound horrible to say this, but the reasoning is that if the pet DOES develop a sarcoma due to a vaccine and it is over a limb, if it has progressed to the point where a simple mass removal isn't possible, the limb could be amputated and the animal's life could be saved. The last place I worked, the vet gave the vaccines over the animals' backs, and we did have one cat develop a tumor. Surgery was done, but we couldn't remove enough tissue to save her, and she had to be euthanized a few months down the road. All that said, I've been working in the field for seven years now, and that is the only animal that I have ever seen develop a vaccination site sarcoma. It isn't common at all. I'm not in favor of forgoing vaccinations entirely, like some people argue, but rather either following AAHA guidelines which call for vaccinating every three years rather than yearly, or performing titer tests. There's no reason to vaccinate more than is necessary, especially indoor cats (cats have a much, much, much higher risk of sarcomas than other animals).
