| I don't think that's normal! What shot was it? Rabies? I'd call the vet. I doubt it's a reaction to the vaccine, but you can't be too careful with vaccine reactions. It's possible they hit a nerve or something like that when they gave the injection. At least I think that's possible - I've had it happen to me with a vaccine, and I was in a lot of pain for a few days. Hopefully someone will come alone who has more insight on this....

| Pain after vaccines can be normal but if it is that bad, it would be best to call teh vet. They may give pain meds and/or have you give Benadryl.

| It is normal for the babies to be sore sometimes, Gucci was sore after 2 of his shots on the area where they gave the vaccine. Me being me of course I FREAKED and took him back in but he was just sore. He would scream everytime I picked him up for that entire night. He was back to normal the next day with a little amount of soreness by day 3 he was fine. I think maybe they get some of the muscle sometimes or something like that. I know with my pittys that they do not get sore, but because Yorkies are so tiny sometimes they can get sore. I would still call the vet just in case they want to see him, mine did so that is why I advise that. |

It really is normal. I know when I get a shot in my arm, omg, it can *really* hurt to the touch for a good couple days. Also, every pup (and human) is different, some tissue will disperse things more quickly than other tissue and this can be very individual.

| For a make-shift heating pad, pour rice or beans in an old sock. Heat it in the micowave for 1 1/2 minutes. Wrap it in a hand towel and put it in her bed. It will give her a little comfort. |

| Yeah, for the little guys they can really be in pain. Finnigan did the same thing for his 1 year boosters. He didn't have that reaction when he was smaller, because my vet separated out the shots because he was so small. I think next year we're going to separate out his boosters again because it was just horrible listening to him yelp in pain if we touched him. We gave him some benedryl and it helped alot!

| Hope he gets to feeling better soon! Lexilyn got her 1 yr boosters today too, but it hasn't slowed her down a bit. She's done really well with her shots but she's quite a bit bigger at 6 lbs. I'm hoping it doesn't kick in later tonight. We'll be thinking about you!!

| Last week when Bailey got her distemper shot she was really in a lot of pain too. She would not even walk down the stairs. She just stood and looked at me while I was calling her down. So as a good momma would do, I went up to pick her up and she yelped. I felt so bad and I was so worried. I woke my hubby up to check on her and everything. He had dogs before while I have not. He said she would be fine it was from her shot and I was sure she had some internal trauma...lol. It is so hard with fur babies, just like our skin babies when they are sick or in pain. We feel so helpless and worry ourselves sick. Bailey was feeling much better the next day. By the next night she was back to herself. Hope your baby is doing better!!! |

| Mandie was the same way with all of her shots. After talking to the vet and telling him how she acted after the first shot, he gave her a shot for the pain before the actual shot itself. I felt so bad when we first got her because, she was in her new home, just got a shot, and was very sore. I know what you mean when you say you picked them up and they would "squeal". Never tried the benadryl though.

| The Benadryl will make your pup sleepy.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | My Lhasa Poo reacted to the Lymes shot that way. I always had to put her on Rymidyl for a day or two after the shot, as she could hardly walk she was in such pain.

| Buddy just got his distemper on Friday...and he didn't yelp during the shot, but an hour later, when I tried to pick him up, he yelped and when he tried to walk, there was a little bit of a limp. He slept it off the rest of the day...and by the next day, he was fine and back to his normal hyper self. The vet said that he would be a little sore, and that the area where the injection was given may be a little swollen (just like when a human gets a vaccination). |
