Mandie was the same way with all of her shots. After talking to the vet and telling him how she acted after the first shot, he gave her a shot for the pain before the actual shot itself. I felt so bad when we first got her because, she was in her new home, just got a shot, and was very sore. I know what you mean when you say you picked them up and they would "squeal". Never tried the benadryl though.
