| My vet uses this pill - Iverhart Max. Has anyone heard of or used it before? I need to start giving it to my minnie this month, I just wanted to know if anyone had any info on it.

| No Longer a Member | My yorkie isn't old enough yet, but I give it to my shih tzu. I chose it cause it does not only does heart worm but does Round, Hook and Tape worms. My vet told me that smaller breeds sometime have a reaction to it so he only gave me one pill to see how Leo reacted, but he was fine on it and he actually liked it. |

| This pill is a broad spectrum worm pill. It kills heartworms as well as tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms. In my opinion, unless you're having a problem with worms in your area, this is just too much medicine, especially for little yorkies. It's probably A LOT more expensive than other heartworm medications as well. I prefer Interceptor, which is plain heartworm medicine. It's cheap and it does the job. If your yorkie ever gets any other kind of worms, you'll know it and you can treat them then. |

Does Interceptor work for you? Just a general question. I went to my vet wanting to try that (Interceptor) and he said that there were studies and they were showing that it didn't work and that is when he advised Iverhart Max. Leo (my shih tzu) does well on it with no problems. The Iverhart is cheaper than the others (at least from the website I buy it). I figured I would need to have them on different worming medicines, I really do need worming because my roommate has 2 cats and she doesn't keep hers on any meds and I rather not get my puppies sick. | |

| Iverhart Max is actually less expensive than Heartgard. I switched from Heartgard to it for a few months... but I think my Rocky is having a reaction to it... almost like he is in pain (??). I think the Iverhart is what he is reacting to... it happened two months in a row for a day ... I am switching back to Heartgard this month and see what happens. My vet suggested I give him pepto with the Iverhart Max... I said "no thanks". He was on Heartgard for over 6 years and never had a reaction. Hopefully the Iverhart was what was causing my Rocky's problem ( ). She said one other person said her dog had a reaction also... it was also a small dog.My other dogs seemed fine with the Iverhart Max but I am switching them all back to Heartgard.

I've used Intercepter for years...with no reaction...... Are you making sure that he has food in his stomach before giving it to him. It was a mistake that I was making early on. I've heard that Revolution is great......it's a topical....protects against heart worm, and other worms, protection against mites and mange. The only problem is that it must be applied every 30 days....so you don't have a grace period like you do with Intercepter or Sentinal

| Iverhart has the same ingredients as Heartgard Plus except Iverhart contains praziquantel and I don't think Heartgard does. The preservatives are probably different also. Interceptor does protect against some intestinal worms. The dosing is 5x more than it needs to be to do this. The dose could be 5x smaller and still protect against heartworms. I have never heard of Interceptor not working in particular...just that some of the heartworm meds may be losing effectiveness. Revolution appears to have a higher reaction rate than other heartworm meds and the heartworm protection is questionable.

The vet said to give him only boiled rice tonight and maybe boiled rice with boiled chicken tomorrow. On Monday, the vet wants to see him. He wants Prince to try a topical heartworm med next month...I'm not sure which one. Has anyone tried topical heartworm preventative meds? If so, did your Yorkie have any side effects? What kind did you use? Thanks.
