Prince had a reaction about 35 minutes after taking it. He was shaking and vomiting a lot. The first time he vomited was all of his food, the second time he vomited, about 5 minutes later, was foamy and yellowish. I called his vet who told me that he has a sensitivity to ivermectin, the first ingredient. I did not see the pill in his vomit so the vet felt that Prince would be protected for the month. (He was on Tri-Heart Plus before this but starting spitting up shortly after I gave it to him...the first ingredient of Tri-Heart is also ivermectin. (Only the third ingredient of these two heartworm preventative meds are different).
The vet said to give him only boiled rice tonight and maybe boiled rice with boiled chicken tomorrow.
On Monday, the vet wants to see him. He wants Prince to try a
topical heartworm med next month...I'm not sure which one.
Has anyone tried topical heartworm preventative meds? If so, did your Yorkie have any side effects? What kind did you use?
Thanks.
