| My Yorkie has diarrhea!!! My 6 month old pup has had diarrhea for about 24 hours now. She doesn't have a fever, is still eating, playing, running around and acting otherwise normal. I have switched her off her food this morning to some rice. She is also still drinking and urinating normally. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to firm up her stool? Since she is acting like her normal self I am figuring she just got into something that upset her stomach but I know she has to be in at least a little bit of discomfort and I would like to try and ease that for her. Help!!

| I used to have to give my little guy plain yogurt and pumpkin when he was a puppy until his digestive problems got sorted out. |

| So is it normal for her to have this bowel issue as long as she is other wise acting normal? How often did your yorkie have diarrhea?

| Well first off, I would say that diharrea is abnormal and if it continues there must be an underlying issue. Secondly, I was never exactly sure why my puppy was having it. Without being too graphic, we noticed that there was a trace amount of blood and some sort of fatty substance. His stool would be normal for about 5 days or so, and then he would have some episode of diaharrea. The vet said that it may be a case of inflammatory bowel syndrome. But, further testing showed some sort of liver/pancreatic digestive fluid imbalance. I dont remember the names of the drugs but he took some medicine for a few weeks, but the diaharrea persisted. We continued to give him pumpkin and yogurt and eventually (2 or 3 months) later it all went away. All in all, it was pretty expensive and we never found out exactly what was wrong. We were just happy to finally have a happy and healthy little guy. |

| Riley was having episodes every 5 days or so. Unfortunately there were small amounts of blood and kind of a fatty substance. He would continue to eat, drink and act normally during this time. The vet thought it may have been some inflammatory bowel disease which is a chronic condition. However, after some blood work, she found that he had an imbalance of liver vs pancreatic digestive fluids. A few weeks of drugs and the problem subsided for the most part (maybe 1 diharrea episode per 2 or 3 weeks). Finally, it just disappeared altogether and he has been very healthy ever since. I would never say that diharrea is normal, and if it persists for more than a few days you should have him checked out just to be safe. |

| I used "Holistic Solution" by Eagle Pack. It has natural ingredients that aid in the relief of diarrhea, loose stools and upset stomach. You just sprinkle it on their food. Although, if it persists I would have him checked out. |

| I'm having the same problem now! It's been going on for 6 days with Meeko tho. I gave him pumpkin and baby rice cereal and it helped. I got worried tho and took him to the vet. They had his stool was negative for parasites and gave me some medicine that is suppose to cure his diarrhea within a few days. i hope your baby get better and doesn't have to see a vet tho. Good luck!!!

| Diahhrhea for 3 days My little man yorkie has had diarrhea for 3 days; it's very dark but no blood that I have seen. I have been giving him keopectate but it I feel has made him constipated. He's also very lethargic and he won't eat or drink very much. What should I do? Should I wait a couple more days or should I take him to the vet now? Thanks again, Natasha. |

| I agree with everyone here that it is unwise to mess around with diarrhea for more than a day, especially in such a tiny body. When Smokey had his first bout, which of course was on Thanksgiving Day, I kind of freaked out and rushed him to the vet on Friday. The stool sample was fine, no temp, no sign of anything via palpation. The vet gave us Endosorb, which is a probiotic and is something nobody had ever recommended before for my other dogs. It did the trick almost immediately. A huge tablet which I had to cut in half and apparently delicious, since Smokey gobbled it all down without a struggle once a day for 6 days.
