I would strongly encourage you to find a vet that you like and one that you trust. Ensure that they have a nice office staff that you also like. The thing about it, is that once you find a vet that you trust, you can ring him up and tell the office staff what's going on, they can have the vet make a recommendation for you as to whether it is something he will need to be seen for, or something that you can remedy at home. Also ask your vet for a 24 hour pet hospital they refer to and keep that number on hand. If it's after hours you can call that emergency line and speak with them. Yorkie talk has a plethora of experienced Yorkie owners and breeders, but they are not veterinarians. If you are ever concerned about your dog's health, the first thing you should do is pick up that phone and call your vet. I have never had a vet mind that I called and asked whether or not to bring my dog in, and they don't always say I need to bring her in. For instance - When Tashi ate chicken bones, I called the vet. They told me exactly what to look for that would mean I needed to come in. She exhibited one of those symptoms and I immediately brought her in.

Has anyone here ever tried using human remedies on your yorkies? Well I've done it couple times with the pink stuff when my benny throws up or has Diarrhea. Of course I don't give him human dosage but about 5ml through a dropper and I think it helps quite a bit. The other day my maltese who's about 11 lbs had Diarrhea for couple days and my uncle have a 1 tablet of Immodium AD and it too solved the problem. My benny would fight me to death if i tried to put a pill down his mouth but my maltese just swallows it if you give it to her.

My 1 year old Lexi has diarreah. It started lastnight. I was gone to work 5:30-9:30 and when I came home it was all over the floor and this morning she is still leaking it every where. No blood, but it's watery but also jelly...literally looks like petroleum jelly some parts of it. She's been sleeping a lit, drinks water and eats occasionally, doesn't play, just walks around and sleeps. Should I take her to the vet?

Hi everyone! My 2 yo teacup had a bad case of diarrhea. Her mood and eating were not different. She had been given a piece of roasted chicken and I knew it was the cause of her discomfort. I was really worried after 24hrs and the home remedies you all shared really helped my baby! I thank you all for sharing. I've also learned that the food I was giving her needs to be removed from her diet. Thx again

Hello, My 5 months old (fully vaccinated)has diarrhea started 2 days ago. He's playing, eating, drinking water and acting normally. The only problem is he's been having diarrhea in small amount multiple times a day. Today his stool had a little mucus like thing on it. Could anyone please tell me if this is something that need immediate medical attention? If not what can I do next?

been reading all this. Took diarrhea poop to our vet who checked it for worms or parasites...nothing. Gave me a drug which stopped it but also totally constipated him. once I took Max off it, it started again after 2 days.. So now I began mixing plain yogurt with probiotics with his rice and chicken thigh pieces he's always eaten. I added the Purina Probiotic powder to that in the a.m. He's beginning to get better every day. So far, so good! Read that 2 breeds get IBS....Yorkie and German Shepherd. Of course!
