Thank you! I want Lola to eat PMR since it will be benefit her and my financial funds. With that being said, I really have no clue on how to start her with? I can get meat decently priced at my local Mexican grocery store, even butcher shop. What would be a ideal meal plan when starting out with baby pups? I was thinking starting her with chicken drumstick with skin off mixed with some oats for fider, doing that for three days and the next three days pork ribs cut up into small cubes. On the seventh mixed chicken breast and bones pork. ![]()

Do keep in mind though that *any* imbalances that occur during this intense growth phase of her life, could very well affect her health status for the rest of her life too...that's very important to realize. Whereas if you went with something like pre-made raw (Primal, NV, Stellas etc...) until she was at least 8mths old - at least you know those diets are for sure AAFCO certified and balanced, which is super important. Do I start her on pre made raw food mixed with her nibbles they've been feeding her or start off cold turkey? Awesome what would be good training and treats that are raw? I noticed primal brand doesn't carry a puppy section or does that not matter, stores close to me only sell primal.

| ![]() 8 weeks old is VERY young. You need to talk with the breeder about what she is being fed when you get her in July.

| ![]() We are getting her thru a friend and she said we are more than welcome to choose the type of dog food we want her to eat. Would it be best if I start her with Primal Pronto Formula right away? So I don't have to switch brands once I get her. |

The raw is considered "all life stages" food. Quote:

| ![]() I feed my three Primal frozen raw patties. For treats I buy the little dehydrated Primal nuggets. I don't add water to them - just break off tiny pieces for treats. Diana |

| ![]() How is it going with your pup Rockon Jenn? Have you read any books? I would highly recommend an easy, simple book called Raw for dogs by Carina Beth McDonald. My favorite starter book, and maybe the only one needed. I have a library full, but this one is the best IMO. This is a great old thread. I haven't finished it yet, but I love seeing 8 year old info, super interesting actually. Ive been raw feeding for 14 years now, and it is very simple for me, now. At first I spent months on end studying, measuring, scrubbing, bleaching.... now it is far more simple, easy even. Though I prefer not to have to rely on a company mass manufacturing food for my pets, (kibble or raw), I think it is great that there are other options to use, until you are ready, and comfortable to feed your own version. And for those who prefer to only feed the premade raw, they are already where they want to be, and I think it is great. It definitely has its benefits, especially that it is so tidy ![]() It is much better than doing a raw diet off the cuff, without real research into nutrition. Unlike some, I don't believe it is the only way, or the best way for everyone. Anyway, I would love to hear how it is going with your pup, and raw. |

| ![]() Photo quality not that great after crop. My 2 pound 10 oz, 9 week old Yorkie x with his first raw meal (Cornish game hen). He knew what it was and what to do with it, though he did whine a little as if to ask for some help! He got it all by himself ![]() |

| ![]() I have read that you start off with one source of protein which is usually chicken, and you do that for about a week and than add another source like pork; and once you've add 3 source of protein than you add organs. Is this true? So for example if I start Raw feeding Lola, she would get one meal skinless chicken thigh, the next meal would be palm size chicken great and quarter skinless chicken thigh, and her last mean would be boneless chick. And after that add boney pork and chicken breast and switch off from there. And once I have 3 different source of protein I can add the organ? Do I add live right off the bat? It would be on only one day since she eats 3x a day Or am I just all of confused?! |

| ![]() Hi Jenn, Not sure where that info came from, I have never heard such a thing. I would start with cornish game hen (smaller bird). And I would stick with that nearly a month. I would feed about an 1/8th of a tsp each of organs, 1/8 tsp liver, 1/8 tsp gizzard, 1/8th tsp heart (organs will probably need to just be chicken). Skin on is necessary, the necessary omega oils are in the skin (hopefully). A thigh to start is too big a bone, and too much bone to start off with. One she has the hang of the smaller bones, you can graduate to the chicken thighs, or legs, though neither has enough muscle meat. If you feed too much liver, they can have diarrhea, and too much bone in one meal can constipate. So it is better to mix them together to start. Most pork bones are going to be too much for a 6 lb dog, but as she gets used to it, you may be able to give her pork ribs that she can really work on. Hope this helps a bit. |
