| A dog is born with a tail and therefore presumably it has a purpose otherwise it would have been eliminated through genetic manipulation over many generations.

| Thank you for posting that article. I am not an advocate of docking or cropping and glad both practices are now banned here. However, I do wish the Kennel Club would catch up and prohibit the showing of such dogs: Docked tails are still permissable according to the Yorkie standard. Quote:

| I LOVE Sophie's tail! It shows so much of her personality! When she's really happy and excited, her tail is up and wagging..... I just think it shows so much character. (These are a few "after bath" pictures) |

| I hesitated on posting in this thread but here I go. Since being involved with the Biewer and knowing of the European laws, I quit docking tails on the yorkies this yr as I can still show them in the international shows (which I have yet to be able to get the to the ring due to health). So my babies that I have do have tails. It is nice too as they are not traumatized for cosmetic looks. My big show breeders know my feelings and all have felt that the USA would adopt the same laws. Yesterday at my vets he did inform me that the vet assoc is working hard to get the laws here changed. |

| I'm not all that into showing but I've seen European yorkies in shows, with their tails that have done pretty well.

| Hi, the breeder that I bought Logan is importing Yorkies from Europe (Poland) and she told me that is illegal to cut the tail in Europe. She had one of her male adult tail cut at her vet when she got her dog and she regretted it because of the pain he went through. Logan is cut but if I had a choice I wouldn't have him cut - they are sooo cute with their little tail!!

| Here is my little guy with his tail. The breeder was not going to dock tails, but I think the demand for docked tails over weighed her desires and I know she has docked litters since Tucker was born. |

| I'll be honest ... I personally LOVE the docked tail look. Tia is just so cute with her little nubbin wagging. I'm not a big fan of the long tails (not that those dogs aren't adorable too, I just prefer the little nubbins). But I HATE the thought that these little ones are in pain when having their tails docked. I don't believe when people say that it doesn't hurt. They have to feel SOMETHING and I'm sure that something isn't pleasant.

And i agree...I don't believe that docking is not painful for the pup...you are cutting through skin, muscle and bone and nerves....how could it not? and when their screeching becomes louder and more high pitched during the procedure,is that not an indication of discomfort? I have also read somewhere that pups will sometimes urinate during the procedure...another sign of feeling pain.
