| Free feeding I know several have said they free feed. I have a dumb question?????????????? I have thought about it, but doesn't that make them go potty more? Cozmo just acts starved all the time. Someone said that I should just free feed. Well the problem is he doesn't tell me when he needs out. And with him being a rescue I don't if that is why he always acts starving. Can someone please help me with this. 1. should I do the free feed 2. just keep feeding him 3 times a day like I do now. 3. Or just give him more food the 3 times a day. I think if I would put food in his bowl all the way to the top every feeding he would eat all of it at ever sitting. Can some one help????????????????

| I have six and I free feed. They do not eat the whole thing. Usually only a few kibbles at a time then walk off . |

| You can only free feed an animal if it does not overeat. It sounds like your dog would overeat by free-feeding so I don't think that would be a good idea. There could be a medical problem causing him to be so hungry all the time. Hyperthyroidism is a posibility, although uncommon in dogs. He could also have worms. As long as the amount he's eat is keeping him at a healthy weight, I'd continue with what you are doing. Feeding more will only make him gain weight, which isn't healthy. If he's skinny though, you can feed a little more.

| He may overeat at first, but learn that the food is always there and just start eating just until he is full. I wouldn't fill the bowl all the way up at first, just see how he does. If not feed a little more at each feeding. Happy Thanksgiving.

| I have always free fed mine...My sister thought the same thing, if she free fed, they wouldn't stop eating, so, while we were both up visiting my mom, my sister went out(she had brought 2 of her 5 dogs up to my moms), well, I put food down for them, and they ate and ate, and then all of a sudden they quit, they were full...a lot of times, I have seen they will eat more to begin with, but, once they realize they don't have to fight for the food, they will start slowing down..as far as the pooping, well, ginger is going on 16 weeks, she has her food down all day until around 5:00, she poops twice a day |

| I put food out for my lil one in the morning and again at night.....she eats when she is hungry....but I measure how much I put out each day and as long as she is getting her daily intake of food I don't worry....she also is down to where she only poops once in the morning and again once in the evening... There are also times that she enjoys a bit of variety so I try to provide her with that as much as possible....

| I free feed.. I think IF you do free feed just have to keep you eyes on him IF he doesnt let you know when he has to go,. You just have to watch his actions closer. Take him out after you have seen him eatting. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I don't free feed because if i do they won't eat. They will just leave it there. When i feed 2 times a day they are hungry and appreciate the food more and eat it. Also if i free fed 2 of them wouldn't let the other one eat so i feed them each at a time to make sure they all eat. We free fed our last dog and he got over weight so i learned my lesson not to do so.

| I have free fed Buddy since the day we got him. We have never had any issues. He poops twice a day. He does let me know when he needs to go out. My sister feeds her Yorkie twice a day and would never free food. I think it is whatever works for you. Everyone is different!!
