| there are lots of good shampoo and conditioners out there. I have used so darn many of them trying to find one that will work good with the different types of hair that my 4 have. I think I have settled with coat handler or #1 all systems. those 2 being my favorite. #1 all systems is the one I am kind of stuck on. It is fresh smelling and they stay clean longer, which means less tangles too. Rinsing is cut in half also. (it rinses really fast). with both the #1 all systems and the coat handler unless you have some really tight tangles you dont' need to brush before hand.

| One thing that I do that cuts down on the matts is shampoo with Minksheen and condition wth pantene. I leave the pantene on for 20 minutes. Another thng you can do is comb the hair through with the conditioner on. have the chris Christensen Fusion brush. Another thing that I have that has came in handy is a dematting comb.

| i cannot comment on shampoos and conditioners but i can tell you what i did. most of coco's matts were under her arms and the underneath. i had a ghost cut on her. this is where they shave the underpart of her keeping the skirt. looking at her you cannot even tell there is no hair underneath. it has worked like a charm. no matts no more!!!!!!! yea!!!!!!!

My furkids Donating Member | I also have this problem with Lillie. She has a long soft coat. I had bought some cowboy magic (everyone on here raves about it). I wasn't that impressed with it. However, I realized, after using it a few times and becoming extremely frustrated, that I was using the wrong brush..(dumb me!) I rub CM into my hands then rub it into her coat...where she is really matted I put a tiny drop of CM right on the matt and rub between my fingers. I then use a (I guess it's called) a slicker brush. It is a pin brush without the little rubber ends...I take small sections of hair and start to brush from the end in, so there isn't so much pulling. Lillie isn't crazy about being brushed so I usually do this at night when she is tired and laying on my lap. Lillie used to get really matted when she was a puppy...she doesn't seem to get as matted now that she is a yr old..

| My 2 favorite shampoo and conditioner are Pet silk and Shea pet. I like Shea Pet a little more though. I also started using Paul Mitchell Pet leave in conditioner and detangler and it works wonders for us. Leave their coat really soft for days and it also smells good. I tried Cranberry Fields and wasn't impressed with it. I also sometimes use Pantene deep conditioner after I shampoo them and that works great too. |

| We used to have problems with matts on Zoe until we switched to a good shampoo and a really rich moisturizing conditioner, and voila, no more matts. Shampoos/conditioners will be trial and error so play around with various products. Although I don't keep Zoe's coat too long, see my avatar. Try switching to a premium shampoo/conditioner and use a chris christensen brush...they're expensive but worthwhile. We carry SheaPet and Happy Tails product line. | The CC brushes are worth the money, they are great. I've just ordered MinkSheen, 1 gal, because the sample worked wonders on my 4 kids. Just shampoo, no conditioner needed, no mats, you can get a free sample and see if it works for you - just email them or call and ask. The smell in the bottle is not so great, but the dogs do not smell like that when you're finished. http://www.touchofmink.com/

| Shea Pet---both the shampoo and conditioner with a stainless comb after he is dry. I will say that he stays untangeled of late between baths and I think it is because of the food supplements I added from Honest Kitchen. He is also sooooo shiny now too---never was before. |
