| Need good hair supplies!!! I am looking to "revamp" our grooming supplies....and I need HELP!!! First, Mojo looks stunning after a bath and brush. But, he always gets the wavy "butt"....then, his hair gets to where it isn't has shiney (almost "dry" looking) and then it gets "big"...I mean, he looks like he gained 3lbs over night....is this because it isn't nourished enough? He is a silky coat, but I think is back side (bum) is cotton.....can this be? AND what can we do about it?? Then the color....again, here we go with the color of a Yorkie. Mojo has gotten lighter...silver/gray in areas and I have had numerous people tell me that is because he is a silky....well, I have seen his parents and I have his family history and AKC reg....and his is 100% YORKIE. Should I not worry about this or should I try the darkening shampoos? I think he is a completely handsome little guy and I think his color is perfect.....so, I know it doesn't matter....but, I have noticed that it seems really light these days. (he just turned 4 yrs in March) I really like the SheaPet shampoo/conditioner, but I have heard numerous raves about Minksheen...do you think this will nourish his hair?? I think that is what he needs.....nourished/conditioned hair w/o being overly conditioned and greasy looking. I am trying to figure out new foods for him (after all the recent recall scares) and have seriously thought about homecooking (after watching a news segement on this just last night). I wonder if his diet plays a big part in how his hair looks? He is on Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice and gets Missing Link...healthy treats and the occassional human food (eggs w/ olive oil and baby spinach, chicken w/ rice, carrots, etc). Also, I have been told to get some items from Plush Puppy (there are so many to choose from). The SeaBreeze Oil was one of them and the one for wavey hair (fluffy butts) - can't think of the name. Anyone have opinions on these products. Cowboy Magic and BioSilk are okay...just okay....they haven't seem to have done what I had expected them to do. BUT I think the stuff from Plush Puppy will take care of that issue. I totally LOVE the boar bristle brush....now, Mojo's hair has never been matted or too tangled, so this brush works well. The metal rake style brush we have...is this needed? This would be for mats and tangles right? Is there a good brand of this type of brush, if I need it? Do I even need this rake style brush?? I don't recall ever using it. The CC Buttercombs....well, there are soooo many to choose from. I have heard that #006 is what most people use, is this correct? Also, I wonder what the difference is between it and the metal comb I have? - It is a metal comb w/ wide set teeth and then teeth that are close together. What do you use this comb for? I know it would good for tangles (knots) and maybe eye "boogers", and topknots....is this about it? Speaking of which...Mojo has had runny eyes (due to the pollen, I guess)....what does everyone do for this? I mean, I have to keep them cleaned several times a day. What is everyones tips and techniques for taking care of this problem. He normally doesn't have this, but we have noticed that every spring (like ours) he gets it. The vet said this was normal and happens more during the season where our human allergies act up. She did give us eye drops, but I don't want to have to use those every day. Moving on.....clippers....mine has died.....what brand has everyone found works the best....and what about the tiny little ones to get the pads of feet, ears, between eyes, etc. Okay, I know it seems like I am a first time mom here, but I just really want to know everyones thoughts, opinions, tips, tricks, hints before I go and spend $300 on new (better) grooming needs. THANKS!!!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | LOL What a mission you're on. Anyone that says Mojo isn't all yorkie needs glasses. He looks nothing like a silky. when you said this: Quote:
Jodie sent me some little sample bottles of Happytails and I LOVE it...it's very nice - moisturizes well and it worked well on both my girls.. The Plush Puppy Shampoo and conditioner are really really nice....I use it on Cheri all the time and it cleans really well AND the conditioner turns her to silk..it also works for Chanel but I still like the CC Systems for her overall. Kat sells the Cranberry Fields and that's really nice for shine and is really reasonably priced. on the rake style 'brush'...its a dematting comb. unless he has thick hair I wouldn't use it on him. Sally's beauty supply has super good prices on Boars Bristle Brushes....

| I've tried darkening shampoo and notice no difference at all so I wouldn't bother with that one. Zoe has a silver coat too and we get the silky remark all the time even though I believe silkies are much larger breed and Zoe is only 5 lbs but looks even smaller. Disregard stranger's comments and do what is good for your boy and what makes you happy. I really don't think there is 1 perfect almighty shampoo/conditioner out there for all dogs, probably a matter of what works well with their coat and if they have sensitive scalp. But I'm sure people's experience on here helps narrow down the hundreds of products down there. We LOVE LOVE cc brushes. We weren't too thrilled with their shampoo or leave in conditioner. |

| I don't know if you can tell or not, but in the post above, the very first picture.....his hair is super silky, dark and beautiful....picture it has if a harness vest was on him...where that harness vest would end, that is where his hair gets silver and seems more cottony then silky....if he HAD a harness vest on, normally this hair back here is thick and sticks out...making it look like he has a big behind...oh my! so, I think I definitely need to nourishment back there.....something that will lay it flat (so it isn't has puffy) and something that will nourish the hair. Here are a few more pictures.....a few days after a bath. I don't know if you can tell very well, but his hair gets wavier in the back and isn't as dark. DSCN0739s.jpg DSCN0733s.jpg

| OK, I'll put my 2 cents in here... We've used: Plush Puppy Shampoo & Conditioner, the Seabreeze Oil and Blow Dry Cream. Sham/Cond are nice but just don't keep the smell on Mia long enough and the Oil just doesn't seem to work for Mia either. I do like the Blow Dry cream but I only use it on bath day. Cowboy Magic Rosewater Shampoo and Detangler & Shine. Didn't care for the Shampoo and I do use the Detangler every once in a while or when she gets matted. *Biogroom's "Groomin Fresh" Shampoo & Conditioner and 'love it"! It smells great and lasts all week unless she gets into the mud/water puddle out back. Nature's Specialties Plum Silky Shampoo + Conditioner in one. Also the Coconut Clean conditioning shampoo. Both smell sooo good and clean really well - I just haven't been able to get it right with a detangler afterwards without taking away the beautiful smell Got these at the groomers. Australian 3 Minute Miracle - love the smell and does work detangling after her bath. Mia does have a cotton coat and I have similar complaints - her coat gets dull after a few days (even if she still smells good) - it gets wavy towards her rear end - it seems lighter almost sun bleached even though she wears a dress to take her walk and isn't in the sun after that. BUT she does matt... and Mojo's doesn't so I don't know.... I'm thinking about Coat Handler's, Shea Butter or the Espree line. I wish they all had "sample sets" that you could buy to try them out. Good Luck and let us know what you do try, ok? Oh BTW the BEST stuff I've ever had is what Bailey's & Tia's Mom sent me from Canada on our first GE - it smells 'wonderful' and I use it almost everyday to just brush Mia out. I got it last November and I've got about a 1/3 of the bottle left. It's called Home Path Skin & Coat Conditioner "Rosemary & Babassu" scent.

| Whoa! Thanks for the information...I will be looking into everything! I heard that Espree does do samples and someone had posted a link to it, but I lost it. So, I would like to try it too! I have heard numerous things about MinkSheen (good and bad). I have emailed for a sample. Mojo have never been matted, ever. One time, we did take him in the Jeep w/ the top down and then in the creek, etc. He was tangled after that trip, but nothing like I have heard from others. He can wear clothing, etc and hasn't matted or gotten to the point that his boar bristle brush doesn't do the trick. I am telling you, I htink he just has a weird coat. The groomer has commented on his silky hair and then talks about his thick, fluffy butt. It is crazy! Crazy!!!

I will definitely post before/after shots and let everyone know how I like it. I also ordered other items, but they haven't come in yet...so we will start w/ this product in our long line of testing....
