My furkids Donating Member | de-matting comb I am thinking about buying one,....I am having a difficult time getting the matts out of Lillie (even with cowboy magic) She does not like being brushed. She is only 21 weeks old and I am trying to get her used to the brush...(combs are out of the question for her) I really don't want her to end up so matted that I have to have her cut...How do these de-matting combs work? do you like them. Any and all comments are appreciated Thank you in advance

| I love mine! They say it doesnt take the length off but it does somewhat. But I love this grooming tool. If you get one, I would suggest you get extra blades too. They pull and are not as effective when they get dull. But when they are sharp they are great! My dogs dont even seem to mind. |

| This is not a product for a novice person and can be very dangerous. I have heard of people cutting off ears of cockers and tails of dogs with these. But with a yorkie this shouldn't happen but they are still dangerous. If you get one use it with caution please. I think you just have that puppy coat going on right now and it will get better. One other thing that can happen is people set these down on the grooming table and the dog steps on them and cuts their foot. I am not sure the kind of mats a yorkie get can be fixed with a matt comb. Maybe during this time a bath every other day of so to keep the matts out with a good conditioner. Debbie Ray |

| The one I have is rounded and curved. on the end and is sharp only on the inside. It would be hard to cut your self with it, or your yorkie except at the ears or the genital area, especially on boys!. I definitely wouldnt use this on ears because the ears are flexible and they could slip into the inside sharp area. I use mine on the ouside body area only. ANd it definitely shouldnt be left out for children to get ahold of, lil fingers could get into the blade area if they really wanted too. Good point Dray. |

| I also have the one that's curved and sharp on the inside only, I've never used it though. I think as long as you're slow and careful (just like clippers) it should be okay

My furkids Donating Member | Thank you all for the input! I am hoping it is just because of her puppy coat that she is matting...she does have a cottony coat though. She mostly matts around her britches, tiny ones on her chest, around her shoulder area (under) and some behind her legs...she isn't really bad but, I know if I don't start taking care of them now I am going to have to have her hair cut... I have used the Cowboy Magic but, I can't get the matts out...maybe because she HATES getting brushed and jumps and whines like I'm killing her LOL and,,,,,I am hardly pulling. The way her coat looks now I think she is going to have a beautiful coat,...lots of work but beautiful...Sadie (adult and I hate to say this but,) I could go a couple of weeks without brushing and she would never matt...silky coat but, not as pretty as Lillies... Thanks again YT friends!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I have one and LOVE IT - I use it to thin Chanels hair but if you get those tangles under the arms and do it very gently - you don't have to ever cut any hair - I use mine all the time - but only 1 time on Cheri - she has much silkier hair than Miss Thang does Mine looks like a little rake - similar to the pic below |

| OHH good post!! Some of grayson's matts are so hard to get out and the cowboy magic isn't helping. He came home with his legs all matted and it has been a pain on the both of us, I want to save his coat!!

| I have one and it is wonderful for those stubborn mats! They take the mats out without hurting Maddie and I'm all for that! I've never had a problem with cutting her. I just ordered one for my sister from petedge and it's only 3.99. http://www.petedge.com/shopping/sear...=12&Search.y=6

anyone with a silky coat may NOT want to use this as it does thin the hair if you use it like a comb - which with Chanel I do cause her hair is too thick - I also use it up under her chin where clothes rub - it helps so much to cut down on knots | |

My furkids Donating Member | Thanks everyone! Looks like a de-matting comb is next thing on the list of things to try! I hope that when Lillie gets her adult coat in that it doesn't matt as easily as it does now....it's matting right where you can see the adult hair and puppy hair meet. but, she does have a very soft thicker coat than Sadie,...Sadie hasn't had 1 matt on her since I've had her..... Thanks again!
