This is not a product for a novice person and can be very dangerous. I have heard of people cutting off ears of cockers and tails of dogs with these. But with a yorkie this shouldn't happen but they are still dangerous. If you get one use it with caution please. I think you just have that puppy coat going on right now and it will get better. One other thing that can happen is people set these down on the grooming table and the dog steps on them and cuts their foot. I am not sure the kind of mats a yorkie get can be fixed with a matt comb. Maybe during this time a bath every other day of so to keep the matts out with a good conditioner.
