Senior Yorkie Talker | I think Amara has a cotton coat!!!!!!!!! So I'm kinda at a loss now. Any suggestions on shampoos? I read some posts for Pet Silk. Anyone have any luck with cotton coats? I'm figuring things out. And I'm pretty sure she isn't going to have a silk coat. Si I'm thinking about trying Pet Silk. Any suggestions on anything else. |

| Maci has a cotton coat... there is a shampoo called Comfy Dog Oatmeal Shampoo that has had some good reviews for cotton coats. I haven't tried it yet though. I find that Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner work great for us. But I want to try Comfy Dog next time I have access to a Petsmart/Petland. I would recommend keeping her in a short coat unless your willing to brush her 2-3 times a day lol. Maci is 1/2 silky 1/2 cotton... makes for a very goofy looking dog on a bad hair day. I'm putting her in the Joey and Zhoie cut in the spring!

| Are you talking about Mane and Tail or Comfy Dog... Mane and Tail is by "straight arrow" and it comes in 1Litre bottles so quite big! As for Comfy Dog I'm not sure lol I like the Mane and Tale because it's made for horses, we used to use it on ours, it makes their tails and manes have a nice showy shine, and I find it does the same for Maci. She just happen to come with Mane and Tail shampoo otherwise I never would have thought to use it. I think it does good!

| My Azrael has the thickest coat I've ever seen and of course it's also the worst cotton coat ever. I have spent enough money on shampoo's and conditioners that I could buy a new car. NOTHING works perfectly!!! The only thing that worked for my Azrael was to cut her short, and use two different conditioners at the same time and not rinse completely out then spray her legs with a conditioner I mix up. I also have to use a slicker brush on her legs because they are not shaved down like her body, but they are cut short. I think I know now why no one wants to show the Yorkies with this type of coat.

| Yeah it'll be worth it to do it at least once! Even if it's not a perfect silky coat with a perfect part and etc etc... she will look pretty if you stay on top of brushing/bathing! Maci's gonna get her long coat this winter too despite her cottony coat!

I planned on letting her coat grow long as well. I always wanted to as well. Never happened. LOL wasn't worth it to me to torture morgan for my vanity.

| I find keeping the belly shaved minimizes matting for us so far we are at about 1-2inches long tge only matting is in her leg pits and belly. Her mattes are tiny so I loosen them with conditioned and use my fingers so it doesn't hurt for some I just cut them out if it won't affect the coat. buuut I won't lie I'm tempted to cut it all off after only a month haha!
