| Black Circle Appeared After Being Groomed??? I took our sweet boy to be groomed last week. DH picked him up that afternoon and it was dark when I got home so I didn't really notice anything. The next morning when Baxter was racing around the backyard I noticed this weird black circle on his butt about 2 inches to the left of his tail on his back upper thigh/butt. I have NEVER noticed this before. I picked up on it immediately, so it is definitely something new. I looked closer and it almost looks like someone dipped their thumb in ink and then pressed it onto his hindquarters. I seriously thought it might just wash off, but no such luck. It looks like a black thumbprint of fur. It doesn't bother him when I touch it and it doesn't feel rough like the skin is hurt or anything. Does anyone have any idea what this may be? Will it go away? Thanks for all your help!!

| Wow - I can't think what it would be. Can you post a picture of it?

| I agree, can you post a picture? One thought, did you have his hair trimmed shorter this time? Maybe you're noticing something that has previously been covered with hair?

| Pictures of the spot These aren't the best pictures, but it was all i could do right now. On the first picture it is the small round dot on the left of his tail, not the dark patch on the top. The second picture was my attempt at a close up. I didn't have it trimmed any shorter, as a matter of fact it seemed like it was left longer than usual. It is so weird! Thank you for all your help!

I would guess that probably a long time ago that bunch of hair got pulled out. When that happens the new hair has lots more pigment and comes in darker. As it grows out it dissipates and blends in with the rest. It was apparently hidden by the longer hair over it until now and it just happens to have been long enought to have been cut to the same length as the rest this time. In a few months or so it will probably disappear as that hair grows out more.

| Has he had any vaccines lately? At one time my 1st poodle (gray) got a rabies shot and she apparently had a reaction to it. The area swelled up and later her hair grew in black and straight. |

| Had yearly shots about a month and a half ago....hmmmm. Didn't notice anything different then, but maybe I just couldn't see it and now it has grown out. Thanks for the input.

| This is a shot in the dark but that circle looks too perfect. Could it be the end of a blow dryer that left a burn mark on his coat? Is the skin red underneath? Just a thought. |

| Is that hip where he got a shot??? I have heard of hair falling out sometimes with some shots. Possibly that is what happened and that is new hair like I explained before.

| Hmmmm... I can't find any red spots underneath the black patch. I'm starting to think that it may be the spot where he got his annual shots about 2 months ago. I just don't know. Has anyone ever heard of clipper trauma or groomer trauma? I was searching online and found a few references to this. It says that if the hair gets clipped too short in one spot, it can create a color change. This is quite the mystery!! Thanks to everyone for all your input and advice. This is my first time really posting on here and the support has been amazing! I hope you all have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

| Looks like butt circles...produced by aliens, very similar to crop circles. You are lucky that they are not shaped like a politian! |
