Black Circle Appeared After Being Groomed??? - Page 2 - YorkieTalk.com Forums

No it's not caused by a hair dryer. The nozzle on a pet hair dryer is not hot. Anything hot enough to singe hair would frizz it up and damage skin but wouldn't turn hair black. Spots like that show up when there was trauma to the skin previously. Could have been a bug bite or hot spot. Could have been anything but based on the location and shape I would say probably just a vaccination. The fur grows back dark and eventually will lighten to the regular color over time. It was probably hidden by the normal colored fur until the groomer trimmed it shorter and revealed the black fur beneath. Frequently the hair actually just falls out and leaves a round bald spot. I see these spots on lots of little dogs. Sometimes they are bald spots and the fur doesn't ever grow back. I have a customer with a yorkie that is quite light silver. I see him about every 2 or 3 months. One time he came in with a bunch of crusty scabby bald spots on his back. Owner had no idea what happened but the condition was pretty much healed up when I saw it. The next time I saw him he had black patches of fur where all the scabs had been. Next time after that he had black ends over tan roots. After a haircut he left with tan spots. Next time he had tan spots over silver roots. After a haircut he was back to normal. Hopefully you will soon see silver starting to grow under that little black spot. It's possible the black hair will eventually fall out and he will get a round little bald spot. I hope not, but it's possible.

Oh my gosh, this is EXACTLY what my Lucy's spot looks like! I have been wondering and googling what it could possibly be, and this explanation makes PERFECT sense! Her spot is on her neck, perfectly circular, black and in the same spot that she developed a lump after her vaccines a few months ago. Goodness, I'm so relieved to know that it's no big deal and that it will eventually go away! I love this site for the information I can get, becase I really don't think I could get it anywhere else!!! Thanks all!!!

I'm glad you found an answer, this is an old thread, but those old threads can be so helpful!

You have no idea, LOL! I've literally sat here for HOURS with my babies sleeping on my lap running searches about any and every question I can come up with... Although I have recently come to the conclusion that it's a whole lot faster to just go ahead and ASK IT! LOL! What can I say? Sometimes it takes awhile, but I eventually get it
