| ![]() Hi everyone. I just received as a gift a 2 pound Yorkie named Mason. For such a small puppy, he is quite a handful. Even though there are various wee wee pads throughout my small apartment, he still prefers to go on the carpet! Any advice on how to get him to stop doing this? Also, I work from 7am-4pm. During that time, the pup stays in my Mom's apartment in one of her spare bedrooms. Everyday she has been complaining about how much he barks/cries/yelps all day. I know it's not his fault for crying but how can I get him to stop crying so much? One last question: Mason refuses to eat dog food. The only thing he'll eat is grilled chicken that I cook for myself. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this with their puppies? How can I get him to eat more? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() He's crying because he want to be with someone. Puppies are just like babies and you can't lock him up all day long and leave him alone. How old is your puppy ? Did you buy scented or uncented puppy pads ? You must find a food he will eat as chicken alone is not good for him. Puppies need the proper nutrition & chicken alone will not provide that for him. Also if he's not eating well you may need to purchase some Nutri-Cal for him so he does not become hypoglycemic. Did you find out from the breeder what kind of food he was eating before you got him ? If not that's the 1st thing you need to do. Also have you had him vet checked yet ? Yorkie puppies need to eat at least every 4 hrs , so if he's not doing that you will most likely end up in the ER with him very soon. If he starts to appear lethargic & sleeping allot you must get him to a vet ASAP as this most likely means he is hypoglycemic. Welcome to YT ! ![]() |

| ![]() Also I would recommend an X-pen set up in a room where he can see someone all day. Kitchen,Dining room or living room would be the best place for the X-pen. You need to look at the potty situation like this, if you had a 10 month old human baby would you expect it to know where the toilet was or how to use it ? He needs to be shown where it is several times per hour & when he uses it , praise him. Never scold him as it will only make him fear you & make the house training much harder. Also keep him in one area of the house , not have the run of the whole house. After he gets the clue as to where it is & how to use the potty pad you can gradually give him more run of the house. |

| ![]() We brought my Piccolo home at 15 weeks and she cried for the first week. Poor baby. I just picked her up and carried her around everywhere. I guess she missed her mom and the other pups. I do not think it hurt her development to carry her around, because she is very independent now. She also hated the crate and was much happier being gated in the kitchen with a bed and a place to potty, when we were out of the house. I imagine things will get better and better and congrats on a new little one.

| ![]() It is very important when you are potty training your pup to place the potty pad in the ONE SPOT you want your dog to use. You are confusing your dog by placing them all around the house. He thinks he can go here and there and everywhere. He needs to be confined in a tiled area until he gets the message. Perhaps a kitchen or hallway. I think he is crying and whining at your mom's place because he hears her moving about through the door and he wants to be where people are. You might actually be better off leaving him at YOUR home in one of the areas I've mentioned above. He wouldn't hear anyone moving about then and you could leave your t.v. on so that there would be some human voices for him. What I did with my yorkie (and still do) is I get up about an hour before I have to start getting ready for work. I take her for a good 20-30 minute walk and then play with her on the floor with her toys. I make sure she has fresh water, food and a fresh potty pad and then I get ready for work. When she was a pup and I was about to go out the door, I would give her a few treats and I had a kong with frozen peanut butter in it so that that would keep her preoccupied while I left. You need to counter a "negative" thing, like leaving, with a "positive" thing. This will help your dog get over separation anxiety and the kong will keep your dog busy for 20-30 minutes after you leave. My dog is 2 years old now and I don't use the kong anymore but I DO toss a few treats on the floor when I am leaving for work. She loves it. |

| ![]() Oh, I forgot to tell you that when I get home from work, I take her for an evening walk for about 20-30 minutes as well. Yorkies are small dogs but they are high energy dogs and need a lot of exercise and attention. Anyway, this helped Daisy relax a lot. As I mentioned before, she is two years old now and has settled down nicely. I hope I was of some help to you. Good luck. |

This is what I'm currently doing and he is 15 weeks old. He still whines of course every now and then (some days more than others) but he is getting better everyday. I think leaving a puppy locked in a room for 7 hours a day is too much...does your mom walk him at all at least once? That might help him blow off some energy during the middle of the day... | |

| ![]() these are great advice, especially the TV or music. I use a sound machine hoping that the calming noises can allow him to sleep while I'm gone. I, too, give Duke treat and tell him that "mommy's going to work" so he can learn that means I'm leaving. Depends on how old yours is, it might take some time.
