| A mini stroke is scary. I'm surprised they didn't keep him for observation. He is definitely in my prayers.

| Is there another hospital around he could go to, or at least contact?

| I am sorry for all the typos in my update. I was on my phone when I posted. We cannot make him or my MIL go to the hospital in Knoxville. Its very frustrating and they are very stubborn. Just continue the prayers. We are going calling a cardiologist Monday..the ER Dr said he needs to see one ASAP but they say they do not schedule for the patients

| Golly, wish they could have kept him but he probably didn't meat the clinical criteria of his insurance plan. Unless some doctor wants to battle an insurance nurse for up to 30 minutes on the phone and then have the overnight stay request pended for review and then perhaps denied with no payment issued, they will usually defer to the insurance company protocols. And if he does keep the patient and the plan doesn't pay, the hospital calls him to task and sometimes, even a patient will not pay a bill his insurance company has denied. So, the hospitals try to accommodate the plans' protocols as much as possible to avoid problems. That is probably what is going on here. I'm sure sorry he's had this happen and hope that he has no more problems. It is not that easy to get in to see a top-notch cardiologist quickly unless you already know one. I sure dislike that he could be waiting for care for a while! I will keep up praying.

| Thank goodness. I've heard some horror stores of ER patients waiting two weeks to get in to see some specialists. It used to be that the specialist on call to the E.R. the night a patient was seen by the E.R. physician for a problem of his(the specialist's) specialty was obliged by his hospital staff privileges to see that very patient in his office ASAP, preferably the first business day after. But that has apparently changed in many areas as I hear of ER patients having trouble getting specialist appointments quickly. I'm sure glad your FIL will get seen fast.

We cant force him to go and I am afraid he will have a major stroke if he isn't seen.

The ER doctor SHOULD have called the cardiologist on call, for him to be seen stat in the ER.....releasing your fil to was negligent at best. Was a CT done of his head to see if he could possibly have a small bleed in his head? What did they do that makes him think your fil needs to see a cardiologist? Dis they check his carotids? If he has occlusive carotid disease, and he is having mini strokes, and he is released from the emergency room in an altered mental state....he is symptomatic and what they did is negligent. | |
