| Oh how scary! I got a tear picturing what you described! I'd be like you and run in the other room while my husband "made her better!" I will keep Missy in my prayers....poor baby! I hope you get those results soon and I hope she was just ... I don't know, knocked out for a second like what happens to humans if they are hit in the head in the right spot? I don't know? Its bizzarre that hitting the table could have caused anything so serious! You are not a bad owner! You were just playing and she was having fun! Theres no way you would have known something like this could have happened!! Keep us updated! Sorry the ER vet didn't give too many answers....seems like an xray would have been an obvious start over blood work? But what do I know? LOL

| Thank you all. I can't even stay with her by myself. Since we had to pick her up from VEC, we stopped by our place because her Hospital wasn't open yet. My mother had to go send papers to a construction worker on site, and my sister had to take a shower....and I told them that there is no way they are leaving me alone with Missy because I am so insecure ever since this accident. I just couldn't stay alone with her.... I am not in the greatest condition. I haven't even ate yet..... I don't even feel like it or else I am gonna get sick. I just keep getting these horrible flashes of Missy lying on the floor every now and then and I start crying. It's so hard to cope with. I'm so devastated. I really hope it's nothing too serious. I still can't believe this happened--- i really can't believe it. It's like a nightmare.... poor little baby doesn't know whats going on. |

| ***Update My sister just got off the Phone with the Vet. He finally got the blood test and said that everything is nearly perfect except for the high level of her Liver? Or somewhere along those lines, he said it is highly due to the stress level she has gone through (poor baby) and he said that it is definitely nothing to be concerned about. He looked into the X-rays; there’s no broken bones/fractures nor is there any internal bleeding. He said she looks great, walking around better…. And overall: great progress. He said we will most likely be able to pick her up @ 6:00 pm. It is currently 12:25 pm here in Toronto. Thank you for the prayers---and please do continue! God bless you all. Good people! Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I suggest following up on the high liver level. Ask what exactly is high....and ask if she can be retested in a few days. Compromised livers run in these babies. Not saying she has one but I would definately be following up on any liver related issue. Maybe Im wrong and there is nothing wrong woth her liver and having a high level is normal after trauma but still.....its soooo common. I am having mine tested yearly for liver issues after researching and listiening to peoples stories on here. Im a paranoid person when it come to the babies... I hope your baby is feeling better and is perked right back up. You did a great thing getting her to the hospital asap.... GET BETTER BABY!

| Thanks, I'm glad too. I miss her soo much. Quote:
He did say it's nothing to be highly concerned about. But when we go pick her up... I will definitely ask him again about it. I do believe it is normal, due to the trauma and such. She's been in and out of the hospital over the this week, since she got spayed as well... So it's very stressful for her, I can imagine. If you guys have any questions that I can ask him regarding this, please post away! We are calling back right now.... forgot to ask him about the difference in her breathing. | It sounds like she could have had a seizure when she hit her head. Some dogs have seizures where they completely freeze up and become catatonic for a short period. Most likely what happened is that when she hit her head, her brain hit the top of her skull with such force that it bruised her brain. Unfortunately head trauma can cause brain damage or hydrocephalus which can't be diagnosed from an x-ray or blood tests. Ask your vet if he did a neurological exam which will help to determine the extent of the head injury. Keep a close eye on her and if she exhibits any neurological symptoms associated with brain injury, then you will want to do further testing. Hope she gets well soon!!

| Just reread my post and realized I might have scared you. I should have added that just because she likely bruised her brain, does not necessarily mean that she has brain damage, its just a possibility. She could have bruised her brain and have no long term effects at all. Talk to your vet about it. I'm sure she will be just fine with a good mommy like you to take care of her.

Considering the fact he wants us to pick her up around 6:00 pm, should be good news. Otherwise, he'd recommend her staying overnight at an emergency clinic for care. So, I am assuming taking her home is a good sign. She was also eating at the VEC. If it were serious, I don't think she would have wanted to drink or eat. And if the Vet thinks is serious, as you mentioned in your first post, then I am quite sure he would have done more testing, seeing how we explained how brutal she looked when the incident occurred. Anyways I am still praying her.... My heart is kind of aching after hearing your 1st post... lol I did write down questions on a piece of paper that I want to ask him--- because I tend to forget once I am at the hospital! | Missy's mom. Glad your little one is doing better and I hope it all works out well for her. Just a suggestion; in a few weeks I'd have your vet run a bile acid test on your little one. High liver enzymes could also indicate liver shunt. I know he said that it's due to trauma and that could be but for the small price of a test I'd have it taken to be sure. Liver Shunt it something every Yorkie should be tested for. Elaine |

You know, i've always questioned whether Missy has Liver Shunt to my sister. Missy tends to rub her head and body on the couch or blanket every once in a while, and I read somewhere hear that it can be a sign of Liver Shunt. So if it's high like that, there's a possibility for sure? I will tell him to definitely test her for that. Can you further explain other symptoms or the effects/possibly long-term ones with Liver Shunt?

| So sorry didn't mean to upset you. I had the exact same thing happen to a little rescued puppy before. She bruised her brain as I said was likely to have happened in your case. She also acted exactly like you mentioned which was from a seizure. She was taken to the vet and all of the same tests were done. As long as she is acting normal your vet will allow you to take her home with instructions to monitor her for any odd behavior that may indicate a more serious injury. More than likely he cannot do the tests for brain injury because an MRI would need to be done and mosts vets do not have that capability. Usually you have to go to a university but the MRI would not be needed as long as she is not acting strange. As I said, ask him if he did a neurological exam. This will tell you if brain damage is likely. I was just saying what some of the possible complications are and what you will have to be on the watch for as some neurological symptoms take awhile to develop. Your vet will tell you the same thing. BTW this little puppy had no long term problems and went to great home at 6 months.

It's ok, I am just a bit paranoid and really not in the greatest condition to hear about other bad complications that caused this. I will definitely ask him about a neurological exam--Thanks for that info.
