| My apologizes to you and Kia. I understand first hand your pain. My little yorkie had his eye removed at the age of 5 months! He now only has his right eye. Coco is now 9 months old and functions perfectly fine. When I brought him home for the first time, I took him for a general check up and he had an ear infection due to living conditions, so we gave him medication for it and clean them regularly. One morning a few days later he woke up and his left eye wouldnt open. I took him back to the vet and they said I had to take him to a Specialist right away. I got an emergency appointment and she said the best options is to remove it as he had an ulcer for a while and it was irritating him so he had been itching it and it ended up popping the cornea. I was devastated! My poor little guy! Anyway they went ahead and removed it, which i was informed would relieve him of the pain of having it stay in it's socket. and they stitched him up, For about two weeks he had his stitches and cone on...........but now he is as good as can be. He has sooo much character and love........it's sad but he is still my blessing none the less!! So from my long story, i just wanted to say....I understand your pain but don't worry, these little guys are tough and full of love and life that they can handle more than we think Keep us posted on Kia's progress !! |

| Friday Update Kia is still on the recovery road, but is more like herself every day. The eye is still very swollen, but I took one stitch out yesterday, and will leave the other for another five or six days, depending upon its recovery. Kia was NOT pleased when I give her an antibiotic pill twice a day, Prednisone (steroid) every night and Atropine drops twice a day, as well as Gentomycin drops four times a day. The Atropine drops sting and the pills require me stuffing them down her throat with a little peanut butter or raw hamburger. However, as of tonight, she is down to 1/2 tablet of Prednisone every other evening, and Gentomycin drops four times a day-these ones do not sting-so it is getting easier. I have been recently babysitting one of my granddogs-the attacker's puppy-and as he is a young, slightly cautious four month old, he does not bother Kia. She was trembling badly the first couple of times he came into the house, but last night, he was here until late evening, and by that time, they were both curled up on the futon with me. Today when he was here, she was quite unconcerned about him, which I am glad about, as Diesel will be spending days with me, until he is older, while my daughter is attending her college classes. I didn't mean to start a long missive, but like many others, my Yorkie is not possibly summed up in just a couple of sentences! Yesterday Kia was helping me once again, putting the ponies out-she is sure that they require her herding them. Then she went looking for frogs in her pool-Diesel didn't go near the water, but Kia hopped right in. No frogs. (Just as well...) |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Look at that girl - it seems she's adjusted to the cone bless her heart !! What a little dollbaby she is and those were just precious pictures.... a friend who just lost her blind cocker to old age said her baby had cataracts at 3 years old and HAD to have her eyes removed they were that severe....she spent her whole life blind but very happy. They have lots and lots of resilence and all the best to Kia. If it will be - it will be.... but it sure looks like she may keep her eye right ? |

| Monday, Labour Day Kia is feeling pretty well normal now; as she lost a pound or so, her appetite is huge-but then, it normally is. The lost pound does NOT have to be found, as she was a little Porky Yorkie for a bit. Now if I could only lose it so easily... We have begun walking again, but it will take a couple of weeks before we are up to our five miles a day. I am not sure about her eye-the swelling has gone down a fair bit, but after taking one stitich out, it is obvious her eye is still turned outward. I can see the pupil in the outer edge, but the inner is till just pink. I pray she does not lose the eye; if nothing else, I cannot afford more surgery! If it happens, I will somehow manage, but the initial bill was over half my monthly income. Luckily I have an understanding veterinarian; he knows I pay, albeit slowly. |
