Kia may lose her eye! 3 Attachment(s) This morning we had a terrible thing happen; it is a long story, but a dog I agreed to foster grabbed her by the neck and tried to kill her. Luckily I was close enough to stick my hands in the dog's mouth and get Kia out, and as well, we were in a corner so the larger one could not shake as hard as she tried. Kia was in shock, and so was I, especially when I saw her left eyeball was completely displaced from its socket. It was so obviously painful that it was hard to pick Kia up. I called the vet's office, then a neighbour to give us a ride; they were not up, but we were at the office within a half hour. The first thing the vet said was that she would probably lose her eye, but they went ahead and they sedated her and were able to get it back into the socket and stitch it closed; still, it may not work. I am medicating her four times a day, keeping an ice compress on it and she has been curled up with me all day. She will definitely lose the sight in that eye, and I just pray she will not lose the eyeball-it will be a constant reminder of my own stupidity! Thank God I was able to intervene before the dog killed her-this is the second time in a month a dog has attempted to shake her to death. I will not allow ANY other large dogs near her, unless I know them personally and watch them constantly. She is now fearful of them, yet she grew up with my 105 pound Pointer and they were the best of friends until he died. Last week she had four Novice Obedience Trials, and each time during the stays, she was next to a huge German Shepherd, the largest dog in the trials! She was great, but I now wonder if she will be next time. In the last photo, the circle indicates how large the swelling (eyeball), is. Has anyone else had a dog's eye displaced, and if so, what was the result? Is there anything else I can do to help her? |
OMG how sad, traumatic and painful!! I feel so bad for her!! I will be praying hard for her tonight!! Where in Ontario are you located? Dawn |
Location South of Ottawa, near the St Lawrence |
I am so sorry she has had to go through this twice, but this time it was more traumatic for both of you..You are a great person for helping out other dogs, but I can understand why you now feel the way you do, I don't blame you at all, I would be the same way, I will be praying for her and you...just give her alot of love & hugs & kisses..... |
Oh, dear lord. Poor little girl. We'll be praying for Kia tonight. ~Marly |
I have had pugs, who have popped their eye out. You just keep it moist with a damp paper towel and get them to the vet. The eye goes right back in and they didn't lose sight in them. I have this twice happen. actually one was my daughter, who ran into a door frame and popped the eye out. But keep up with a smile, as ours turned out fine, no site or eye lose, . Just a scary experience. I am hoping that Yorkies will heal like the pugs do. |
OMG, how traumatic. Don't be so hard on yourself. It's wonderful that you were trying to help that other dog and it sounds like you did well by Kia. Poor baby is lucky you were right there. Hugs and prayers are going out to you and her! |
Sight is so important. I would take her to an eye specialist asap. |
awwwwwwwww that poor baby, I feel so bad for her! A long time ago, my aunt woke up in the middle of the night and heard dogs fighting outside. She went out to find a pekignese (sp?) that was being shaken by a bigger dog, and she ended up losing her eye. But, once she healed, she did very well and adapted just fine. As I said, that was a long time ago so maybe there are more things they can try these days. It wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion by an eye specialist just in case the eye can be saved. I wish you the best of luck! |
I am so sorry. My heart hurts for you both. |
I know one thing for certain from past experience there are YT'ers here that their prayers are mighty and we will be joining with them in praying for Kia. Patti and Jack |
Poor little Kia, she must have been terrified! That was quick thinking on your part. I will be praying that her eye and her sight can be saved. I feel so bad for her. She looks like such a sweet, gentle, trusting soul. Bless her heart. Hang in there and think positively. You saved her life, and that is what really counts. (((HUGS))) |
Oh my goodness. I am so sorry this happened to you and your baby. poor thing. I will pray she and you completely recover from this. |
OMG your poor baby :( I hope she\'s going to be OK, and I\'m so glad you caught the other dog intime before he did any more harm to her. She will probably be traumatized the rest of her life, especially after 2 incidences happening so close together. I wouldn\'t blame you if you didn\'t bring her around bigger dogs anymore, just for the simple fact that she might be to terrified. What happened to the other dog? I\'m assuming your giving him back to the shelter? Good luck with her recovery! |
Poor baby Kia!!!!!!!! I am so sorry this occurred! I will keep Kia in my prayers for her sight to be fully restored!! :hands: |
