| Update on Molly in Illinois -Collapsed Trachea Hi, My little Molly May had another attack Saturday the 17th of June. It was on her 9th birthday. Her last attack was April 8 which was on my birthday. Anyway, she was scarfing down her breakfast and something went down the wrong "pipe". She tried to cough it up but, of course, it only exacerbated the situation until she was in extreme distress. I rushed her to the Emergency Vet Clinic where they put her in oxygen, gave her the usual shots and we waited to see if the trachea would relax and open again. Her tongue and gums turned blue once we arrived at the Clinic because she became more upset. Also, Molly has a real aversion to being caged, as she was kept in a cage 24-7 in her previous life. The oxygen unit at the Emergency Clinic is a large cage like structure with a glass window in front. My sweet little Molly bit the Vet and tried frantically to get out. They assured me she'd be all right but I know that being upset can do more harm to dogs with this problem, so I took her home 5 hours later. She is not the same little dog. First of all, her eyes are kind of vacant . Last night she just stood in one spot even after I turned off the lights. She usually sleeps with me but now seems distant and sad. The vet said she may be "maxed out" on the meds that save her life--I'm not sure how many more times we can go through this. I made a promise to her when I adopted her that she would never feel pain again. I love her more than life and I'm so scared as to what is next. I am so careful with her diet; I keep her out of the heat and don't let her get over excited, but this attack just came on while she was eating. Her collapse is in the thoracic area and she is not a candidate for surgery. The attacks are getting closer and closer. What is the right thing to do in this case? Her breathing is labored and her heart is enlarged. I've only had her for four years and she is the best little girl. Also, each ER visit is approx. $250 which is 1/3 of my income as I'm on SSDI. I hurt so much that I can't stop crying. Judi |

| I'm so sorry for what you and your girl are going through. Ginger and I send our prayers and puppy hugs. You have a difficult decision to make, and I won't pretend to have any real advice there. I'm sure others will. Just do what's in your heart. Watch your girl, you'll know what's right. Remember, YT is always here for you!

| I'm so sorry you are being faced with this decision, it must be heartbreaking. Just listen to your heart, and hers- you saved her life, you have the strongest bond with her than anyone. I'm sure you will do what is best for Molly May. I'll keep you both in my prayers.

| I am so sorry. I cannot wait for the day that there is a better way to treat this. Duncan has it and he is a little over a year. |

| I can just imagine the mental pain and suffering you are going through . . . and molly's physical anguish as she continue to battle this trachea problem. I am in no position to say what is the right thing to do as I have never been in your situation . . .just follow your heart . . . as I am sure you have Mollly's interest at heart. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OMGosh ! That's horrible and so scary ...bless her heart ! I don't have any advise but to keep her as calm as possible at ALL times - maybe you can hand feed her to keep her from having another 'attack' ...that way you can monitor her food intake ? You must be so devestated - I'm so sorry ! |

| Molly's bout with a collapsing trachea Hi, All, Thanks so much for the prayers! It's been a week since the last attack and Molly is back to her old self. Her eyes are bright and she is hiding crackers again. LOL She is a candidate for a new procedure called an Inter Luminal Stent but this procedure is done only in TN at this point. Has anyone had any experience with this? ISU in Champaign is the closest Vet Hospital and they don't do this procedure. I put my name on a list for financial help as the operation is about $3000 and there are no guarantees. I'm enjoying every day I have with her. Judith |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My last Yorkie Gracie passed away from complication of a collapsed trachea in the thoaric area as well. That was 9 years ago and back then I contacted the Texas A& M Univ as they had done a recent study on CT in small dogs. I decided with advice from thier vets and mine not to do the surgery as the outcome back then was not good as Gracie had lung and heart compluctions. Univ of Tenn seems to be a great place for cutting edge technology and if they feel she is a candidate I would go for it. 3000 is a lot of money but if you have to keep taking her in for er treatment it may be a wash. I know how hard what you are going thtough is first hand. What would set Gracie off in to an attack was thunder storms. I lived in fear of them. Good luck I hope the surgery can be done and pray for it's success!

| My Jolene has CT as well. She is only 3 and is easily set off by excitement and thunderstorms as well. We have her on a sedative for storms to keep her calm as well as on cough suppressants. I have read ALOT about the procedures at UT and they seem to be top-notch. YTNR has a fund for yorkies in need of financial support for surgery. Check them out and maybe they can help. Good luck.

| I am so sorry to hear about your baby and her problem. It is so hard watching them try to suck air into their lungs. Scares the bejeebees out of humans so you know it frightens the dogs. The procedure might also be available at the vet school in Penn. I know one of the stent methods was actually developed there...Maybe Stacy can tell you how to contact the vet school there. When my Jesse died, he struggled all night and I prayed that God take him away so that I did not have to make the most merciful decision to have him euthanized but it was not to be. I know how it feels to have one of these little ones lying on your chest all night struggling...It hurts so much!!! You and yours will be in our prayers. |

| I'm so sorry I'm literally tearing up because this could happen to any puppy it isn't ANYONES fault but Tila attacks her food and just swallows it all whole as well gosh I hope she's ok, and I hope she starts improving on her health! that poor baby but, it's NOT YOUR FAULT, so I really hope you cheer up and just spend time with your baby and give her the attention she needs, and that you want to give her. You love her, you know it, she knows it, we all know it. just remember that, it isn't your fault, you love her and you will do what's best... whatever decision that is that you have to make |
