| Butt Problems and Luxating Patella Hi everyone, I'm new to the form and created this account because I need some help getting answers which my vet seems unable to help me with. I'm living in China now where I found my dog in a flower and bird market underneath a crate of birds, instantly fell in love and we took him away from there in a matter of 10 minutes after we negotiated and sorted everything out. I've had my dog Remi for about 2 years and he is 2.5 years old. The problem: I recently just found out that he has a luxating patella from a new vet. The other other undiagnosed issue for almost a year now is that when we are walking all of a sudden he will just start sulking and his little tail will go down and he will kind of curve his body and walk but very slow. This is until I get down and rub his butt and scratch him a bit. The vet thought that it was his diet and he was allergic from something. We tried new special food but nothing. I'm not sure what's going on here. Has anyone had a similar problem with their dog or Yorkie? Thank you! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome ! Curving the body like that sounds like pain to me - could be pain from digestion, defecation, back/neck, knees...etc How are his poos - soft or hard? Grainy? Mucus? Does he chew or lick his paws? For the LP, it's best to have it graded from I-1V.

| It could be his digestive track. He has never had a very good digestive system. I've tried putting him on certain diets and he does better on some then others. But his poops have been pretty mushy, not so solid where you can pick it off the ground and not leave anything behind. I'm really feeling overwhelmed and frustrated because my doctors aren't helping me the way I think they should or giving me any viable answers to work with. #expatproblems |

| Also, he keeps jumping off the couch so I also think that could be a problem. He acts like he's super man and it makes me cringe when he hits the wood floors. But his poops have been mushy and mucusy. I was giving him some type of tendon bone recently and stopped after I read that it could affect digestion. |

| If I were you, I would ask the vet to check his spine. Willie started walking funny occasionally. Our vet did an xray and found that he has narrowing in his spine. The vet suspects its an old issue from before we rehomed him. He was given 10 days of anti-inflammatory and is doing much better. BUT you would never have known anything was wrong based on how he was acting. He would run around and jump all over as if nothing was wrong. But, like you, I could just tell something wasn't right.

| I've been actually wondering if it could be something to do with his spine. Because like I said, he jumps off the back of the couch onto the wood floors. I've been trying to train him to go down the couch instead of jumping off but, he prefers taking shortcuts. I'm going to put some cardboard boxes behind so he can't do that for a while. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to ask the doctor to do that. By the way, what food does everyone use to feed their pups? |

| I feed Royal Canin for yorkies to all 3 of mine. One of them has kind of soft poo, but when I tried switching them once it caused a major disaster. So we will stick to RC. Hoping it all turns out fine. But I would way rather be safe than sorry. Yes, getting our flying monkey to stop jumping has been very difficult. Welcome to YT!

| Maybe his anal glands are bothering him. They may need to be expressed by the vet. |

| Thanks for the feedback! My dog is currently on Purina. The vet didn't have his special diet of Royal Canine for Allergies so I had to buy something and he was on RC when he was a puppy but he had really soft poop. He still does. But, I'm considering putting him back on the normal RC and seeing how he does because I really don't feel comfortable with Purina. I was considering buying a new food called Nature's Balance but, I have to import it from Hong Kong to China and it takes about 3-4 weeks. So, I'm not sure if I should switch him now to RC and then to Nature's Balance. It sounds like it could lead to some trouble if I do it that way. What do you think? UPDATE: I recently went to the vet the other day. She gave me glucosamine and he was miraculously better when I came home and took him for a walk. He has had more energy than he has had in 2 weeks! I couldn't even keep up with him on our walk, he was running ahead everywhere. He must have been so, so happy to be feeling better. It's only day 1 of the glucosamine so, we'll see how he does! |

| Also, I thought it was his glands but, the vet has taught me how to do it myself so I regularly do it myself. So, I've ruled that bit out.. I've also been told, since he's an intact male, that his prostate could be swollen and therefore pushing agaisnt the anal glands making it uncomfortable for him. I've just set up his neutering operation for next Monday so I'll be able to rule that out if that is actually the cause of his constant irritation in his behind! =] |

| Have x-rays taken. My Mickey did that and they found he has a hip that has a very shallow joint so sometimes his leg bone slips out. That is what I thought of.
