| Belly Issues Again Sophie is having belly issues again! I have no idea what to do for her. Every now and then she decides to stop eating and drinking and then her belly gurgles so loud that I can hear it in the other room. She hasn't eaten since last night. I gave her some water with a syringe and some pumpkin on the roof of her mouth in case she as having hunger pains because sometimes that jump starts her appetite, but none of her normal fixes have worked tonight - taking her for a walk, force feeding her something, a bum bath, cuddles and rice. She will refuse all treats and food but acts completely normal as soon as she sees her leash or someone comes in the apartment. But as soon as the excitement is over she has her tail down between her legs again and snubs all food and shakes like a leaf. She had a normal bowel movement this morning as has gone on a walk and peed a couple of times but is refusing food and had major stomach gurgles. The last time she had blood work was July 2014 and all was normal, so she is probably due for some more bloodwork but we were hoping to put it off until her heart worm test she gets in April. She is going to the vet soon; her appointment is at 7:20pm tonight and I am just waiting for my ride (downside to only having one car and my husband works afternoons!) but I am hoping that in the next hour or so people could maybe give me suggestions of what it could be or things I should ask the vet about it. I trust my vet, I just want to be able to ask specifics. I was thinking maybe anal glands? She has been booty scooting to the extreme lately and her poop has been softer than usual. She has been cowering and looking behind at her bum today while shaking, no redness though. She is getting groomed on April 11th, so usually she would get them done then but maybe we have gone too long between groomings because of the winter? I am so worried about her. We just lost out 4 year old cat to a sudden heart attack (non-detectable heart condition) and it was traumatizing seeing her go from playing and being normal to lying on the floor not breathing in the span on 10minutes. Please help me settle down and not panic right now. |

| Home from vet. Took blood and emptied her anal glands. They were completely full and one had puss in it and she had a fever, so she is on anti-biotics for 10 days, but was wanting to eat as soon as they were expressed. |

| Glad she's better. My Rosie has tummy issues a lot. We ended up having to put her on a prescription food to help. If it continues I would discuss her food with my vet.

Do you mind me asking what food you had her put on? Sophie is still not completely better and we had her in the emergency vet lat night because she has been throwing up everyday for about a week. Her blood work came back normal, a test for her pancreas came back normal and she was given cerenia and famotidine and came home and ate her kibble but is worse today than she has been and is now refusing to eat. He mentioned that he thinks her sysyem is just really sensitive and we should try the hypoallergenic food by Royal Canin, my husband thinks it is a waste to put her on food full of "bad things" so we didn't get it last night. We are currently not speaking to each other right now due to a fight about me wanting to take her back in and have an x-ray done to make sure there is nothing that could be causing all of this, and he informed me that he is done spending money on her and that she is fine. Maybe if I tell him someone has had success on a vet food, he will listen?

I have another post in the health and food section. She is going for an ultrasound tomorrow as her large intestine is thickened and she is refusing food again. They want to rule out lymphoma but I have gotten so scared that she has cancer that I cannot even function right now.

| Yes.. make sure she gets the ultrasound. My older Yorkie had thickened intestines, etc, and refused to eat with diarhhea and it was Lymphoma. I'm glad you are having her checked. I wish you Luck and will say a prayer for your Baby... |

| Thank you. We drop her off tonight and she has the ultrasound in the morning. She has decided that plain chicken and some wet food would be good to eat tonight, so I am trying to take comfort in the fact that she has at least eaten something tonight. |

| That's Fantastic that she ate !!!! What a great sign. Mine wouldnt eat anything at all. I will be praying that nothing shows in the ultrasound. How old is she? Maybe she is just getting very sensitive to foods. Wishing you all the Luck and Prayers in the world. Keep us posted as to how she does..We will be thinking of her !!!! |

| Thank you very much. She will be 6 in June and has had this problem of not wanting to eat every so often for most of her life, it is just recently that she had the anal gland issue and infection and then this is the longest she has gone from eating and her usual self one day to not eating the next. She had the x-ray on Monday and came home and ate and then she was perfectly fine on Tuesday - ate all her food and was excited to eat and had normal bowel movements and even played with her toys (and she usually hates toys!) and then we woke up this morning and she was back to not eating. It took until about 5pm to get her to eat anything. I didn't give her too I much though, I didn't want to irritate her belly. I am really hoping because she keeps going back and forth that it is pointing more to belly trouble and not cancer. We had tried changing food, had her on an antibiotic and then when she had the x-ray the vet gave her some Hills I/D and I am really hoping it has just been too much on her little tummy in such a short time. I am just nervous because her x-ray showed her intestine was thicker than usual, but at the time the vet wasn't too concerned. I just keep worrying that they will find lymphoma or a mass that didn't show up - they weren't concerned about the small intestine being lower than usual, but anything that isn't "normal" has terrified me. Other than when my mom was dealing with cancer and passed away, I have never been so scared in my entire life. Thank you again for the prayers and I hope that my next update is good news. |

| My Grand-dogter is on a hydrolized protein diet for her sensitive gut. That and she has Vitamin B shots once a week. They said she has like an irritable bowel problem. Since she has been on this prescription food and the shots she has been doing great, even though she has recently gone through a very distressing emotional time in the loss of her main person. Amazingly she seems happy to eat the same food all the time.
