With that said, the reason I have defended the OP is because I am a bit familiar with the treatment of animals/pets in those parts of Asia. Not too long ago a one dog per family law was instituted (yes just like their children)and people were forced to register their pets for a host of social reasons. Those license papers were very expensive and so for a short while they lowered the price and all those that had more than one dog were allowed to register before a set date and be grandfathered into being able to keep all their pets if the license was purchased before the closing date. Many people ran out to get more pups etc., to try to register before the date etc.etc.etc.


The problem with OP's situation is she doesn't have the exact address, she is at the MERCY of these people, if these people have 2 licenses in their house (I'm assuming their dog is depressed because of the recent loss of another family pup) then they could try to keep her Teddy.


By calling the police OP runs in to a gambling situation, because Teddy got out she broke the law and it carries a big fine (under the "leash law") and they may find she is not a good owner because of this and let Teddy stay where he is at or they may simply determine for any reason that Teddy can stay with the people that found him.

I am actually in Vietnam, sorry if I forgot to mention that. And no, we dont have one dog or one child policy. But for many people here, a dog is a dog, not really a family member. So I was really surprised to find so many people here who understood my despair, who really helped me in my search and who were so protective and kind of their own dog. I always thought we ( the dog lovers) were in minority here, but maybe I was wrong? It was a very pleasant surprise. Of course there were many people who just said "can't you get a new dog?", but many people really showed their concern and were very helpful.

OMG I was so SICK with worry for you as my Uncle/Aunt and 3 cousins lived outside Shanghai where all that 1 dog 1 family thing is.....they helped neighbors get their ownership papers because many couldn't afford them and good friends of theirs lost their 2 pups who ran away and the police made them turn over their ownership papers and everything to the people who basically stole them. It was horrible and my uncle tried to bribe the police etc...needless to say they have come back to the states.


I was so worried you would go through the same thing.....I asked you and you didn't answer about your location omg....so wish I knew you were in Vietnam before this!!! No matter so happy Teddy is back!! We can all rest this weekend knowing Teddy is home with WHERE HE BELONGS!!!!

Thank you for this added information, you must know by now, YT members are devoted dog / animal lovers, not devoted to only their dog, but every one's pup. We worry and are concerned for all members pups, and all do our very best to help those that seek help. Just happy you got little Teddy back. Now I can have a restful week end.

Its nice to know that even in places where dogs are really really really really thought of as as nothing that there are people who know such love....those people who gave Teddy back were smitten by that love...you are very lucky to have gotten him back...even here people find pups and fall so in love that they don't return them to their owners who are left with broken hearts... Again, I am very happy for you.

I'm overjoyed at the news, stl! What a great ending. Many of us were scared to death for your ever getting your dog back, no doubt not half as much as you were. It's such a great ending and hopefully, that lady whose idea it was to keep him, will search her soul for what she put you through for so long.

Enjoy your Teddy! I know he's overjoyed to be home and safe with his mommy and daddy again. Give him kisses all the way from Texas.

But they told her she had to return him, so I guess the whole keep a few days were actually her idea. My husband gave them the money (which we had promised in the flyers), but they took only half of it. And they asked to be able to come and see him sometimes.

Can't tell you how happy I am for you and your family !

Oh yeah, I'm so relieved, I've been so nervous about this, I can't imagine how you feel. Has Teddy been fixed? If he hasn't neutering can really help a male dog not try as hard to escape. An unneutered dog goes nuts smelling all those females in season. Anyway, give Teddy some hugs for me, great news!
